Community Tasting Notes (average 89.2 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 71 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by LightDancer on 12/10/2014 & rated 87 points: Grassy nose. Grapefruit and citrus on the palate. A bit past prime given the flavor profile that's generally better young. Unusual for CA SauvB; more NZ. Worked wonderfully with chicken rolled up with gruyere and chanterelles in a mushroom sauce with wild rice. The wine complemented the saffron in the sauce. Very solid.  Tasted by winejnky on 3/8/2011 & rated 88 points: A little more NZ style than I like (nettles, cat pee, acidity), but still a fresh, fun wine to quaff with some fish on a Tuesday night. (2776 views)
Tasted by KeithSurg on 3/4/2011 & rated 92 points: Very tropical on the nose and palate. Rich mouthfeel, but still dry with a smooth finish. Consistently one of my favorite Cal SBs. (2782 views)

Tasted by Fishboy on 7/4/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice sauv blanc. Crisp with tropical fruit notes. (3976 views)
Tasted by gmbdds on 7/3/2010 & rated 90 points: Beautiful nose. Tropical fruit notes frame a great Summer wine. This was gone before better notes could be taken. (4074 views)
Tasted by winefixit on 6/12/2010 & rated 90 points: nice white
went over well at party (4302 views)
Tasted by winopops3 on 5/30/2010 & rated 89 points: A really nice sauvignon blanc. Has all the right elements, but the only drawback for me was a little too much acidity. Minor qualm. (4442 views)
Tasted by swturner63 on 5/30/2010 & rated 90 points: This is probably my favorite Sauvignon Blanc...from one of my favorite wineries. It is not the big grapefruit bombs that are typical of New Zealand. It has a nice grassy smell that balances the fruit nicely. Not as acidic as most SBs. But plenty to pair with food. (4429 views)

Sauvignon Blanc

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
