Community Tasting Notes (average 90 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 12 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ejca on 3/2/2008: a decent sav blanc, but previous efforts were better. (2875 views)
Tasted by LACERS on 9/22/2007 & rated 89 points: Tried this in a Vertical of the 04-06. This was the loser of the three. Just on the thin side and lacking the great concnetration the other 2 had, but still a very good SB. Nose of Peaches, Citrus, tropical fruit with floral notes. Medium-fullbodied. Palate of Peaches, passion fruit, lemongrass, apricot, papaya with a medium-long and clean finish. (3308 views)
Tasted by borneman on 7/27/2007: needed to drink within a year - this was disappointing (3214 views)
Tasted by flashvictor on 7/25/2007: over the hill (3209 views)
Tasted by ejca on 9/4/2006: had a 04 before the 05, both good, liked the 04 better. (3428 views)
Tasted by borneman on 9/2/2006 & rated 90 points: Our favroite american SB, this vintage shows more stone fruits, less tropical and slightly less acidity than the 2004. Still very good, but liked '04 better. (2160 views)
Tasted by Paul Lin on 9/1/2006 & rated 90 points: Tasted at the winery. Nice nose of lychee and other tropical fruits. Clean citrus flavors on the palate, with some honey and gooseberry on the finish. A delicious sauvignon blanc made even better by the very attractive retail price (the winery price is $20). My one complaint is that it was served a bit too warm for my tastes; otherwise, it might have garnered a 91. (2080 views)
Tasted by LACERS on 8/4/2006 & rated 92 points: Tasted at Winery. Nose of Peaches, Citrus, tropical fruit with floral notes. Medium-fullbodied. Palate of Peaches, passion fruit, lemon grass, apricot, papaya with a long and clean finish. 2004 was slightly better. (2307 views)
Tasted by flashvictor on 7/13/2006 & rated 91 points: Very pale yellow-green leading to a nose of honeysuckle and citrus. The palate is dominated by tangy grapefruit and honeysuckle notes. This fininshes with good acidity. I may be underscoring this wine as this bottle was served slightly over chilled. (2274 views)
Tasted by GolferChris on 5/25/2006 & rated 92 points: Consistently impressed with the Cliff Lede Sauvignon Blanc the last few years. Packed with aromas of lychee, wet stone and apricot. Rich mouthfeel. Flavors of peach, pear, lemon-lime, and a almost honey-like finish. (1730 views)

Varietal Character

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
