I was expecting this to be hard and closed but it was the opposite. Day one, vibrant mushroom, herbal, more secondary than expected. Palate had distinct mint and lots of structure. Day two seemed to lose the secondary and gain some fruit. More mature and less acidity than the 06 beside it.

Aromas of strawberry and earth. Old school Brunello with cherries, leather and tons of acidity. Very dusty chianti like finish that dropped my score. Consistent on day 2.

Brought to M and J's house, with Ruth too. Popped and poured. Darker garnet. Nose of cherry pits, earthy tones, a bit of porcini, strawberry, leather. Medium- to full-bodied on the tongue with integrated layers of dark cherry and plum laced with licorice, moca, dried herbs, and some oak notes. Smoothed tannins and moderate acidity leading to a moderately long finish of leather, cherry, and earth. Quite harmonious despite its youth, and a terrific pairing with puttanesca sauce.

Boerne wine club Brunello tasting Feb 2015: medium scarlet colored. Bone dry, dusty tannins with bright cherry acidity.
