  • Very nice to check in on a 14 year old Kabinett from a producer that I am quickly becoming a fan of. Watching the evolution of an older Riesling throughout an evening is a wonderful experience.
Upon opening the color is what struck me, quickly showing that this wine has some age on it. Initially notes of Golden raisins led me to think that this was not only quite ripe, but on the downward slope of life. But with air this wine came to life. The palate is on the ripe side, but with nice acidity it remained clean and fresh.
Notes of spiced Apricot, tangy tropical fruits, and candied citrus all provided a delicious frame for this surprisingly light footed wine, despite the ripe fruit profile. Interesting notes of smoked herbs added to the complexity and depth of the wine.

  • From a vintage that I like tremendously (and that I think is often seriously underrated), this is a very good example of Doctor: intense, deep, powerful, slate-driven. There's still good acidity here and it works to tame what I think must be a relatively high level or residual sugar. Lovely to drink now, but no hurry, this will go many more years. Cellared since original release.

  • Lovely nose of coconut, then some fascinating elusive tones: pine/cellophane/shrimp chips (the white kind, that contract on your tongue upon contact) pineapple; on palate, wildly elegant understated acid and fruit--lovely. Excellent service with Thai--stood up straight and kept doing so throughout the meal. Further through the bottle, peach surfaces, and it's a bit like a luscious Viognier and a Riesling had a beautiful blonde child.

  • A Palm Springs Costco buy that was very nice with round fruit on the apple-pear spectrum balanced by lemon acidity and stoney minerals. Just a bit rounder and sweeter than what I am looking for in 2007 kabinett. Excellent

  • Grosser Ring Tasting of 2007 wines from the Nahe, Mosel, Saar and Ruwer (German Embassy, London): This is a nice traditional Kabinett - fresh and lemon-zesty, though a bit short on acidity to counterbalance the ripeness of the fruit.
