Rich, intense, delicate mousse, kicking and alive, ripe fruit, brioche, earthy motes. I was happily surprised, for me one of the best vintages of Comtes. 94/95

First time I had a luxury champagne that old. I was absolutely surprised that this wine still showed good perlage, bright colour, was fresh and tasted like lemon or lime (predominantly). Clearly a delight. A different question is whether the 25 year old Comtes de Champagne is better than a younger one. According to my experience I would prefer the younger vintage which is a good deal more lively. But do I ever get a new Comtes de Champagne for the 80 EUR I paid 2 decades ago for my 1998???

Smooth, subtle, small hints of green apple but not bitter. You can definitely tell it’s 100% Chardonnay but not dry at all with perfect balance. It’s indescribable at first because how often do you drink a 25 year old champagne. At first, before opening, I paused to contemplate what I was about to do. I was going to open a bottle that has laid dormant for 25 years and I would not be able to put it back. I reflected on where and what I was doing in 1998. Nostalgic to say the least.
The bubbles were elegant and beautiful to watch as they ascended. I imagined mermaids swimming up to the top. It’s a classy 25 year old champagne!!
Had it as a starter and paired it with raw oysters, lobster w/ melted butter, and caviar!!! I truly wanted to enjoy the moment and remember it!!

Soo's birthday: Along with some others I thought this was quite Krug-like. Rounder and richer than the ‘99, but with beautiful precision. Powerful and complex with some secondary development from ageing. Stunning wine.

Drank side by side with the 2000. This was lovely. It's got more of the trappings of age. Slightly more oxidized. Nutty and interesting and drinking just very well. I continue to be impressed by these wines. Always wish that we'd gotten ahead of the curve a bit faster with them since they used to be more reasonably priced. Hard to say between this and the 2000 which really surprised me in just how young and fresh it tastes. That was a vintage I was never quite sold on and yet it seems to be aging incredibly well. This was better to drink right now . Not sure on the very long term aging potential but it was quite lovely.
