On the nose, the caramelized aromas largely dominate; it's very pleasant
The palate is fluid, while having a thick juice. We have a beautiful substance with a still active effervescence which gives life to a very complex and deep whole. If the nose remains monolithic on caramel and toffee, the mouth is a kaleidoscope of what can be found in an old white champagne: sometimes chalk, sometimes pastry aromas, sometimes candied citrus fruits or still roasting. The acidity plays its role of framework by offering a nice tension, melted in an intense and ample at the same time. The wine remains very energetic for its 35 years, while being untied with the patina of time. Very intense finish on caramel, although slightly short but I quibble as the wine climbs into the upper spheres of Champagne.
Excellent

Great bottle, fresh, lively, developed but still bright and energetic. Blanc de Blanc icing. Rancio, as per Beaver, as in that sort of overripe richness maybe associated with sherry. Palate is dense and has massive Chardonnay fruit. Chewable, think cinnamon apple crumble. Have always loved this.

Best, and last bottle of 1985 Taittinger Comtes BDB I own. At a perfect place , and so very well balanced. Distinct stone fruits with forest mushrooms, brioche, and minerality.

I have had this many times over the years and this vintage never really got me going from this producer. I normally rate Comtes de Champagne in the Top 6-7 of champagnes but this lacks the sensuality and freshness. Can be a bottle variation but if so I have been rather unlucky in the past as well.
