Drunk over four nights and at its best on nights 3 and 4 when it had fully uncoiled. Really lovely notes of green apple, citrus, white stone fruit, pineapple, honey, mint, white flowers, and slatey minerals. Quite special. Took a bit of time to open up, really coming together by night 2 when the balance was en pointe. Drink now if you can let this sit open and breathe for hours, or better still, a day.

I was shocked by the low ABV of 8.5%. This wine is a good option for drinking and not feeling the alcohol. Lots of lemon, lime, peach, honey, and honeysuckle. Very balanced, at least the average of the start and finish. Also very refreshing. Eye opening experience.

This was certainly good but not crazy good like shortly after release, and I suspect it's in a relative lull, and I'll try to be more disciplined in waiting for the next bottle.

maybe an odd bottle or it has hit a bit of a 'closed' phase but this was a bit flat and lacked balance - I will leave the next bottle for at least a couple of years

Pale, clear sea-green with small (but not tiny) bubbles on the side of the glass at first pour. Nose of white honeysuckle, lemon and lime with a hint of petrichor. White stone fruit, and yellow-green citrus run through a light, moderate-to-long finish. I seldom think of a young riesling as "sublime." This one is....

Continuing to evolve. Less spritz, almost no grapefruit. Honey, lemon, something more exotic on the nose. Mid weight, very good balance, long bright finish. Maybe a touch of grapefruit, with lemon, silky.

Yellow-gold; aromatic, peach and white fruits, lime zest; palate is medium bodied, medium-plus acidity, refreshing fruits, blend of lime and stone fruits; clean and persistent medium-plus finish. Very nice Riesling drinking well but with a long life ahead. 92+

This is a delicious fresh and beautifully balanced wine with a clear pale green gold colour a lifted nose of white flowers, white peach, lemonade fruit and lime with touches of blackcurrant, red cherries and slate. The palate has rich and intense fruit with a long zippy finish of stone and citrus. The balance is exquisite with a real sense of feathery lightness on the finish. Delicious !

Still very much as my August '21 note. Superb now but with oodles of time ahead. Given that slow evolutionary development have extended my drink-by date 5yrs to 2035. 92+?+

Everything I love about Mosel Kabinett. Apple, white flowers, some honey notes, white peach and flinty minerality, sweetness with balanced acidity. This still has a long way to live, but I keeping your hands off will be the hard thing!

On the dry side for a Kab and thinking this might be in a slightly dumb phase. Still showing enough acid and minerality to be interesting. The bottle did go down fast between three drinkers.

Another wine racked out to try after my recent cellar stock take. Has hit the start of its evolutionary plateau. Fresh focussed pineapple-led and stoned aromatic fruits, slaty minerality and lemon zest. Good acidity keeps the residual sugar in check. Drinking well now but with plenty of potential to evolve at least until the end of the decade and quite possibly beyond. 91+?+

A beautifully fresh and finely balanced wine, the WS Kabinett from 2015 is a clear pale green gold colour with a forthcoming nose of white flowers, white peach, lemonade fruit and lime with touches of slate. The palate has quite intense fruit with a long zippy finish of stone and citrus. The balance is exquisite with a real sense of feathery lightness on the finish.

Åpen på duft. Herlig Prüm-typisk renhet med hvit ferskenfrukt, blomstereng og varm regnværsdag. Lett som en fjær i munn. Så rent og sjarmerende. Drikker bra. Går ned som vann.

First bottle of case, back in summer, a little closed & restrained but this one more open & expressive. Colour, greengage with spritz. Nose beginning to show the greatness of what is to come. Tell tale WS grapefruit, with subtle blackcurrant hints, notes of white hedgerow flowers and smidgen of honeysuckle. Palate now showing white peach, lime, delicate almond with classic mineral slate, with salty delicacy, drifting seamlessly to the perfectly balanced finish. Utterly delicious as young JJP WS always is and too tempting to drink now! Hang on if you can, things going to get even more interesting in next 5 - 10 years.

Better integrated compared to previous bottle. Still young but the fruit / acid balance is better. The upfront sweetness has decreased and the crispness of the wine shines more. Good bottle.

Spiced apples and white nectarines with an umbrella of wildflowers hovering over the top. Soft but elegant and gained intensity with air. Pure class. Fantastic textural quality with a long delicious finish. Incredibly tasty and easy to drink. But also complex with an abundance of potential and upside. I've loved this wine since release and this bottle gave me the push I needed to go out and add to my stash.

Heavy petrol, different than previous bottles. And in stark contrast freshest summer flowers. A bit confounding, my gut says let it rest through this phase, the latter overwhelms the former.

Wow, much better than my last btl. On the nose: honey, sweet apple, mint, peach, a touch of petrolly spritz, but very open for business. On the palate: some dissolved CO2 to start, then fantastic acidity..lemon mixed with sweet apple. Great density, more honey and apple and a tangy lemon/apple finish. Yum.

Translucent straw. Very reserved on the nose, giving off only petrol initially. After an hour or so in the glass I picked up a nice honey aroma. Medium to light body with medium acidity. Incredibly sweet with primary flavors of frozen orange juice and apple juice, though there was a nice lime/salt finish. The sweetness just threw everything out of balance. My wife commented that it was like drinking a young Sauternes. At the two hour mark the sweetness was much better integrated revealing flavors of tropical citrus, especially pineapple, with perhaps a hint of strawberry, but there was only a splash left. Not something I am likely to go back to in the near future, but may revisit in a couple years.

Raising the glass to your nose you’re greeted with the most lovely Wehlener signature bouquet- lemon thyme, flowers, peach, kiwi but with the added depth of rainier cherries and white pepper. Absolutely bristling with exciting and finely tuned acidity splayed over a full and mouth coating sauce of pine nuts, early season pear, a knife edge of skate and bees flying from flower to flower collecting nectar. Just so beautiful and so right.

Youthful, with vibrant and refreshing acidity. A tiny bit of spritz that dissipated quickly, but while present I found refreshing. Exhibiting honey and apple + citrus notes with lots of interesting complexity. Delicious now, and likely boding a promising future. 92-93+

Lovely, young, understated. More secrets to be revealed - all in good time. Lime, apple, stone, and a noble persistence that's just waiting to be released. I could drink this, I should drink this, every week. Forever. For its full potential, highly recommended
From Coravin. Sulphur, apple, wet stone, cream, a little custard apple. On the palate the apples proves to be green and splashed by a squeeze of lemon. The acid is a tiny bit high for the sugar. And it all drops off a little quickly as well. Hmm. Time is required. Plenty of it.

Prior bottle was just over 14 months ago and this wine remains in a great spot and continues to show a step ahead of the Graacher Himmelreich. Nose continues to show lots of complexity with peach, pear, apple and melon, but a blend of both white and greenfruit notes. Medium bodied with the same three stages I noted in my prior note: white apple and white pear upfront, white peach, orange and white pineapple through the middle and tart lemon and orange on the backside. Finishes with minerals and excellent acidity. As compared to the Graacher Himmelreich, this wine had a more complex nose, more fruit complexity overall and most important, acidity that still has that electric zip to it. This lively acidity works extremely well with the greater density and fruit complexity of the mid-body. Amazingly, this wine is still available, and I will certainly look to pick up a few more as this is a special bottle.

This is much improved from when last tasted in june 2017. The fermentation funk is almost gone. The green unripe taste has matured into a fresh ripeness. The wine tastes sweet, but is backed up by a good acidity and minerality. Only complaint at the moment is that it taste's a bit dilute and slightly bitter in finish. At the moment a food wine more than drinking alone. Give it a little time for the sweetness to integrate and fill out the gaps in this wine.
Still going strong on day 4.

Pnp. Blek lys grønn. Helt åpen. Utrolig god fruktkvalitet. Fersken, kantalope, hvit pære. Touch av lavendelhonning og petrichor. Transparent, men fortsatt veldig ung. Perfekt fruktmodning i munn, grønne epler og hvite pærer. Rå tension. Lett som vann. Lang salt og syrlig finish. Perfekt frokost i solveggen på Kragaluf/Keegerø/Kragerø.
Mineral spine, ripe fruit, petrol aroma. Amazing wine for pairing with dishes that don’t go with just about anything else - tonight it blew the doors off smoked duck with apricot, amongst other things.

Prior bottle was almost exactly a year ago and this wine continues to impress and also remains a slight step ahead of the Graacher Himmelreich. Nose retained the white fruit mix (peach, pear, apple and melon), but has added more noticeably tart lemon notes to go with the floral and mineral qualities. Medium bodied and goes through three distinct, but nicely integrated phases (no disjointedness between them): (1) strong white orchard fruit notes (apple, pear, melon), (2) more dense and concentrated notes of peach, apricot and pineapple and (3) tart background notes of lemon and orange along with lots of slate/stone and mineral. Overlaying all of this is a wonderfully intense streak of acidity that had almost exactly the same liveliness as the prior bottle. This combination of fruit, acidity and concentration is what makes this wine special. While I do generally enjoy these rieslings young when the acidity and fruit show the most youth, there enough complexity here to warrant holding a bit longer as the final product will be worth the wait. I'll save my next bottle for Fall 2020, perhaps even later.
Fantastic wine. A little softer and richer than the first bottle that I had 22 months ago, but still very good. Melon, apricot, and white flowers. I am excited to see where this wine goes and will wait another 3-5 years before opening another bottle.

Slight leaker, but no obvious flaws. AP... 16, 8.5%. Nearly colorless. Nice nose of tropical fruits and some peach, at first some petrol, but waned off really fast, still some different funk remained, that increased with temperature. Huge almost electric acidity, nearly sparkling/fizzy, but well balanced with tropical fruits (pineapple mostly) and peach on the palate. Medium long finish. Really good, if it wasn't for the small leak I wouldn't have opened it, as I think it will even improve quite a lot over the next years.

#09-16, 8.5% abv. A serious and anomalous leaker out of a full case. Popped the cork to see lots and lots of degassing, and tasting the wine, this was far drier than I remember it ought to have been. I'm guessing this was a case of secondary fermentation.

PnP. Pale with a greenish hue. Small amount of sulfur and petrol that blows off, light spritz on the initial pour that dissipates within 5 minutes. The wine clearly brings a great deal of energy and verve. I agree with other perceptions of ripe white peach, nectarine and lime fruit. Sweet for my palate with just enough acidity to cover it. I don’t drink much Riesling but this bottle would appear to set a certain benchmark and carry a sense of place.

Tasted over two days, alongside the same vintage Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett. Somewhat muted bouquet upon opening. Two hours of air reveal enchanting fruit blossom florals, persimmon, carambola, citrus, stone and tropical fruits, jackfruit, cottoncandy, and baking spices, backed by sulfur, mineral and metallic ores, and wafting petrol notes. In a few words: ripe, flamboyant, attention-grabbing. The attack features all the same essences offered by the bouquet, with strong lime zest elements delivering tingling sensations on the front palate, imparting an impression of effervesence. Citrus-like acidity, with light steely undertones hold the effusive floral and fruit elements in check. Truly a mind-bender to this point.
And then...absolutely nothing happens. The middle, back, and finish carry the essences featured in the bouquet and attack, but offer little, if anything, new. The mid palate in particular, where one might reasonably expect great Mosel Riesling to reveal its power (bare its teeth), including its true acidity (long-term cellaring potential), earth, and steeliness, falls flat. So do the back and finish. In sum, the middle and back serve only as tranistion points to convey the bouquet and attack through to the finish. The finish, in turn, receives these two forward elements, but adds nothing new.
Encountered the same experience on the second day. This is not a flawed wine per se. Instead it is ripe, really, really, really ripe. As such, its perfume enthralls, yet little of real substance anchors it. It is a forward wine, a wine of two halves if you will. Seductive perfume and attack: essentially hollow thereafter. The Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett, while not as heady, though still quite ripe, offers a fuller, rounder, and more nuanced experience.
Very interesting, certainly beautiful, and an excellent Kabinett, though well short of spectacular, as implied by the 94-96 point scores here. Long-term cellaring might be risky.
I served this in my wine course. Once the sulfur blew off an outstanding nose that intermingled herbal, mineral and fruit with a heavier dose of the herbal than typical. Light mid palate with fantastic balance and concentration. Slight sense of effervescence. Long finish with a return of herbal minty flavors. Very primal right now, but obvious long term potential for greatness.

Slight fizz upon opening, appealing. On first tasting flowers, pear, apricot predominate, with a defined sweetness. After 10 minutes in the glass the complexity intensifies, with layers of pronounced lime, zestiness and minerality. Back end is very long, with a touch of creamy stone fruit and a surprising amount of spice. Hugely rewarding, ordering more to lay down.

As well as the Graacher Himmelreich showed the other day, this was a clear step up. Intensely aromatic nose with a whitefruit mix of peach, pear, apple and melon along with floral notes and spice qualities. Medium bodied (8.5% ABV) with white orchard fruit upfront (apple, pear, melon) but as it gains density through the middle, tropical notes of pineapple and peach start to shine through. Underlying all of this fruit is an intense river of acidity, spices and slate/stone/mineral qualities. The effect is electric with the acidity serving to amp up both the richer notes as well as the more tart notes. And this wine is only getting going. In another year or two, should be showing even better as all the components start to truly come into alignment. Next bottle no earlier than November 2018.

First impression: utter beauty of site and wine making.
Brilliant, bright but restrained flavors of pineapple, passion fruit and key lime subside quickly into an emphatically aromatic Spring garden of white flowers and white peach. The aroma collects and expands in the sinuses like menthol- creating pressure both at the top of the nose and base of the throat.
With 15-20 minutes in the glass... distinct rock savoriness and dark smoke emerges, with some element of surprise, working to balance the fruit. The simultaneous buzz of very pretty lime-zest like acidity makes for a beverage which stimulates many senses.

How is it even possible that this wine is this good? The nose is pitch perfect with a bit of sponti, brown spices, green herbs, mint, kaffir lime, peach, apple, crushed stones and minerals. A touch of smoke. It's got tremendous snap, huge energy and drive, and it's thrilling in a way that throws the salivary glands into overdrive. The palate is delicious and yet sharp as a Katana - it feels like it's on the edge of Feinherb at moments. The lime rides all the way through, but the peach and apple compress at a point in the midpalate and also right before the finish. When they do, the mint, green herbs, spices, stones, and minerals, combine with the lime, which is more lime zest now, and that's when we see the wicked and crystalline structure of this wine. The finish comes back with a bit of sweetness and then dries out again - and the stones and minerals dominate as the finish trails off. Wow. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 18/20.
The recurring theme along this wine is precision - and I think that speaks to this great value from Joh Jos. Prum - it is focused on balance; I prefer a little more petrol on the nose, but that being said, this has a brilliant effervescence and lightness on its feet which would appear to conflict with the layers of syrupy pear and citrus acidity, but somehow there is harmony here, which ultimately is the magic being a great German resiling. $25-$30? Definitely a buy. Enjoy now or hold for the hue to go from pale to deep gold.

China King. A sacrificial bottle, decanted and shaken, after which it was less gassy than a bottle of the 2001. (Modern)Spatlese sweetness, good balancing acidity, stuffed with fruit and minerals. Fun to drink now, but I think this will be a terrific wine in the future (as the 2001 is now and for years to come).

Some spritz upon opening, not unpleasant, dissipated quickly. Pure, very pale lemon-gold color. Shy nose grew a bit deeper with air. Aromas of citrus and melon, a bit of grassiness, no significant sulfur. More forward on the palate, showing pleasant citrus, orange, melon, and sweet lychee. Terrific length, excellent acidity to balance the faintly oily Grand Marnier sweetness. Served with a decent chill, this made a fine, gently bracing aperitif to wake up the palate.

Petrol, mineral and some creamy stonefruit. Palate bursts with lemon acidity and a white fruit burst. Medium to full body. Leaning more crisp than lush. Love the producer and the varietal but was left a tiny bit disappointed relative to my own expectations. Still good.

Not too much sulfur here. Sweet green fruit (honeydew, green apple, lime), that nice Mosely meadow quality, good acidity. But this bottle lacked intensity and minerality, especially when compared to a fantastic bottle of the GH kab I had recently. Didn't live up to the hype of the rapturous CT notes. Maybe the 15s are starting to shut down?

Comparing 2015 kabinetts from JJ Prum and Willi Schaefer.
Some unpleasant fermentation funk on the nose. Behind it I sense an unripe fruity scent. On palate it is much less sweet than anticipated. Almost dry and with quite a hefty acidity. Very light and elegant yet has some richness and is quite concentrated in flavour.
Wait a few years for the funk to blow off and this should be ready to go. Maybe decant if drinking now.

Popped & poured well chilled. Casting a pale hue, this prima ballerina leaps from the glass with poise and grace. What a beautiful nose! Delicate and intoxicating with floral, wet stone, and honeysuckle perfume. Subtle and gorgeous. She pirouettes across the palate with a precise touch leaving lithe traces of peach, apricot, and the other stone fruits in consequence. Sweet and acid support her in balance as she soars above the stage. Delicious. I always seem to fall in love with Prum's Wehlener Sonnenuhr (and Graacher Himmelreich) offerings from Kabinett through Auslese. This is my first go with 2015 and I am inspired. Will seek more.

Very aromatic and extremely delicate in a true kabinett style, almost too delicate. My one major gripe from this bottle was that the finish was rather unpleasant. I expected better from this bottling. I guess not every bottle can be perfect
AP 09 16. I realized today that I'd never reviewed the W-S Kabinett from this vintage and what an oversight! Easily the most brilliant, pure, and best-integrated Kabinett that I've ever tried. The nose coming out of the glass is incredible - I wish I had the Auslese open side-by-side because I swear this is identical. Miraculous purity of fruit, but retaining every bit of a Kabinett feel and lightness. Piquant acidity and a massive effervescence when pouring a glass, this almost looked like seltzer water it had so many bubbles. The finish goes on and on and this is on par for one of the wines of the vintage in my book, although some bigger wines may have scored higher. 95p.

JJ Prum - 2015 range tasting: This is the most expressively ripe of the Kabinett flight - with a nose of passion fruit, graphite, pear, orange and yellow florals. The initial palate impression is that the ripeness is more held back than the nose, though it builds in intensity across its length while still having plenty of detail. Controlled and focused power rather than explosive. Should be superb with time.

On the nose, a touch of honey followed by waves of sweet apple and floral notes; a hint of petrol in the background. On the palate, a bit of effervescence followed by excellent acidity; minty herbs, more apple notes. Started showing lots of body, with nice viscosity, but thinned out a bit quickly (say in comparison to the Molitor zeltinger sonnenuhr kabinett). Slightly stony/smoky on the finish.
Day 2: Still very good, but lacking a certain intensity on the palate (tasted against the Molitor once again)

A touch unyielding and sulfury at first, but this quickly opens up with time in the decanter. Initially this is very good, but a couple of hours of air turn it into an absolutely stunning young Riesling with an array of piercingly bright orchard fruit, slate, gentle florality, and a lightness and delicate touch that speaks of true Kabinett. Fantastic wine, and I'm glad I own a few of these.

Great to finally give this a go after so much positive press. I too got the effervescence that made the first half glass come across as a artisanal apple soda pop. Soon, settles down and I can see what all the fuss is about. Pure, spry, and energetic green apple notes all over the place on a weightless palate, the last glass some minerals come out. Awesome layers of acidity and cut. Will age like a champion.

Quite effervescent, almost like a sparkling wine. Very ripe fruit forward, sweeter than the Keller Von Der Fels, and less juicy than Donhoff Kab. In sum this is a "down the middle" wine that should appeal broadly. I'd be inclined to let this sleep several years, but some may prefer the youthful energy on display now.

#09-16, 8.5% abv. Scintillating and exciting, and a return to form after a somewhat disappointing 2014. This showed a very light bit of effervescence when opened. Pale, and almost colourless. The nose, while not the most expressive, has but a slight tinge of the famed reduction, while offering up a very compelling array of not-too-ripe white fruits. The palate has a boatload of acidity and minerality, balanced on a pinhead by just barely enough sugar. Very light but powerful all the same, with the minerality providing an almost tannic grip, this is very compelling kabinett.

I'm venturing more into rieslings more with my wife and this one was outstanding! Rich aromas of pineapple, peaches, pears, and canteloupe with a subtle honey note on the nose. Lovely minerality. Nice balance and freshness with not too overpowering acidity, medium body and finish. I'm backing up the truck on this one, can't wait to see how it evolves over time.
Pop and pour. Pale yellow-gold as expected; nose is aromatic with lime, schist, slight petrol, only slight sulfur (much less than expected for Prum); palate is light bodied, excellent minerality throughout, lime, light white fruit, medium-plus refreshing acidity throughout, low alcohol; finish is medium-long. This seems almost reticent and a bit closed even at such a young age, though it has excellent balance, acidity/freshness, and overall structure. In its current state, it doesn't quite live up to the other 94+ point scores on CT, though it has much potential. 92-93++ Day 2: Similar to yesterday, perhaps some more limey flavors on the palate. Still has good acidity and freshness throughout, and overall still seems just a tad reticent for an exceptional score.

Wow. Pop and pour and I think the first glass was the best. Odd, but will this shut down? In any event buy more. It will get better. I liked this better than the 01 on release as it has no sulfur and is more elegant. Light golden in color. The nose is wonderful. There is a bit of a floral note to this. Also some pineapple and minerals. Finally, what I can best describe as a clean mountain air, maybe pine, quality. On the palate, this is slightly sweet but not cloying or obtuse. The wine has an elegance which I don't remember noting in prior vintages. The pineapple emerges on the mid-palate, but the minerals are there all the way. Great balance. Not powerful but certainly persistent. Nice finish. Will work with or without food. Honestly, it worked great with popcorn and a bit later while smoking a cigar. An odd combination that worked well. I have a few but they are meant to age. I may need to buy a couple more for shorter term drinking.

Delicious !

The wine clearly brings a great deal of energy and verve. I agree with other perceptions of ripe white peach, nectarine and lime fruit. Sweet for my palate with just enough acidity to cover it.

Terrific length, excellent acidity to balance the faintly oily Grand Marnier sweetness. Served with a decent chill, this made a fine, gently bracing aperitif to wake up the palate.

Super precise, razor-sharp Kabinett, zingy and vivid, grapefruit and Uglifruit to the fore. Hard to resist now. but I'm very hopeful it will age into something wonderful.

Sharp, tangy, vivid, vivacious stuff. Lots of crisp tropical fruit, flowers, citrus, and stone. Comes across as young, but very good.

An amazing Kabinett. Layers of fruit, and florals, and fruits, and florals. Lovely composition, great acidity, and a ton of concentration.

Awesome wine, great qpr. Stone fruit (mostly nectarine) up front then strong minerals, peach and lemon/lime as it progresses. Intense acidity and minerals add structure and a minute long finish. Great wine that I eagerly look forward to following as it ages.

Light but clear nose of apple and delicate floral notes. A bit of effervescence in the first glass, off-dry but not very sweet. Smooth with more white fruit flavors, food-friendly acidity and remarkable length. Very good.

I tend to agree with Alex G here -- a bit of effervescence at first. Crisp apple with a steely finish. Some nice acidity here as well. Lovely to drink at the moment. Curious to see how this develops in a few years.

Mute nose that doesn't reveal much. Lots of lychee and other white fresh fruit. Very much on the sweet side, just a but of acidity. Acidity increases with the Time the bottle is open. Long finish.

Day 2: Similar to yesterday, perhaps some more limey flavors on the palate.
