  • 2013 Vietti Barolo Castiglione

This showed a style leaning toward elegant as opposed to power, with a lot of gas left in the tank.

Opened and had a small taste (a bit tight) and then decanted and consumed over 4 hours, saving one glass in the decanter which I tried 24 hours later. Light garnet in color. Nose has a deep core of red cherry, lovely floral aromatics, along with fresh dark wet soil. Showing quite a bit of structure on PnP, but not overpowering. Palate more or less mirrors the nose in terms of notes. Post decant, getting a very floral mid-palate with a spice I can't quite place. Bit of dark cocoa on the finish.

This wine was a bit overpowered by the pasta I made which was orrechiette with wild boar. But this wine on its own, away from the food, is certainly showing better at hour 4 than PnP. The glass left in the decanter overnight is still drinking fine, even with some fruit still showing, not oxidized at all, just a little softer around the edges, but still with some grip. Drink now or anytime over the next 10-15 years.

  • 2022 de Ladoucette Sancerre Comte Lafond

Light citrus notes and steely minerality. Fresh on the palate, pronounced lemon and lime citrus notes cut by tropical fruit. Very nice persistence - that primary palate fruit just sits on your tongue for a long time after putting this down.

Had the 2019 recently which showed a bit tired. This certainly much fresher not quite 2 years in.

  • 2021 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Noir Estate

Forgot I had opened this up just a few weeks prior! A happy accident here tonight. Consistent notes. Light to medium garnet. Red fruited and floral with some stemmy earth and light sweet pipe tobacco. Almost medium in body, juicy mid-palate character, fruit takes on a slightly creamier texture into the finish, with notes of flowers, herbs and lavender. Very interesting.

6/23/2019 3:08:00 PM - Definitely. Plucky is great. Saw insignia referenced on your profile - that was my first "wow wine". Must have been an 02 or 03. No looking back.
