  • Still quite young and tight, especially for a 2001. The fruit is bright with cassis, some mint and virtually no signs of secondary development yet. The tannins are fine-grained but prominent and in the foreground. Medium length. Enjoyable now but will be very interesting to see how this develops over the next 5 and 10 years.

  • Much darker in colour than the 1996 Chateau Montrose tased next to it. Lovely depth on the nose: cassis, eucalyptus, spices, tobacco, graphite. On the palate lots of fruit, well integrated tannins, good acidity. Very elegant and complete, great depth and very impressive length. Drink or keep. 95-97

  • Small Claret Dinner (SW11): Very classical Las Cases poise here, nose has beautiful blue fruits with cassis and blackcurrant leaf too. Tannins here also need some time although the decant has helped it to charm even early in its drinking window. There are hints of grated dark chocolate and blueberry coulis as well as a few Biscoff crumbs. Fabulous wine. Wish this had not been a singleton!

  • The nose is fragrant and charming, with old rose, a little plum and red cherries. On the palate, similarly charming, very civilized and understated, with blackcurrant, a little cranberry and redcurrant, then some plums and vanilla. This could have been a bad bottle, but I found it lacked intensity and the velvety power I would expect from a LLC. On the basis of this bottle, perhaps starting to fade and I wonder if it wouldn't have been better a few years ago. Still a delicious wine, but there are better 01s and for four times less than the current price, CDM 00 is a lot better.
So if you have some, try one, if you haven't and are thinking about buying one, don't.

  • On opening full bell pepper. Dark color than expected. Could have blindées 5 years younger. With time…mesquite barbecue chips…super full bodied…can see this going 15 plus more years and probably improves a little bit
