A little bitter immediately after opening. I poured a little out and aired it in the bottle for a few minutes. Got the impression it wouldn't stand up to a decant. After the air it became thoroughly enjoyable.
Reminiscent, in a lesser way, of Ch. Margaux in the same year. That same meaty intensity on the nose, coupled with a fresh, airy midpalate and a deep, concentrated finish. Perhaps just a little bitter, but that's a bit of a nitpick. I can count the number of '89s better than this on one hand.
Drinking perfectly now, but will hold for a little longer. Would love to see what this is like with an hour in a decanter, but it's so rare in the USA I'll be lucky if I ever see another bottle.

Took it along to dinner at Dylan Prime, no issue with the cork (unlike last time). Drinking younger than an 89. Had a double blind and most guesses at the table was early 2000 (ie. 01 or 03). Still decent fruit with secondary flavours of leather, a bit of cedar and a little bit of dustiness, a clue to its age. An excellent bottle

No real tasting notes taken but this wine is currently all about elegance and balance!! Very enjoyable right now and perfectly mature. Silky tannins and a perfect example of a perfectly aged Bdx.

Took this to dinner with some friends at Whym (NYC - corkage was only $15). Waiter had a bit of problem getting the cork out - it broke up and they had to decant it. Initially a little muskiness but it soon blew away. Still showing signs of the typically Bordeaux nose of sour cherries though after 20yrs, not surprisingly it is muted - no heat or alcohol on the nose. Still nice colour. The taste, WOW ! Silky, velvety smooth - little tannins or alcohol. This is why I love aged Bordeauxs. Finish wasnt overly long but me and my friends really enjoyed it. Glad I have another bottle, am not going to keep beyond another year

Shared with L, 4/25/08--still outstanding--prominent cherries--though it may be turning the corner; would enjoy having more
