Allowed to breathe in glass 1 hour. Clear deep dark garnet color. Notes of blackberry pie, spicy oak, fennel, red licorice, forest floor. Full body, seamless, very nice. Showed best on first evening, then became meaty on subsequent 3 evenings despite vacuum stopper in refrigerator.

My second aged Cali cab following 97 Far Niente. This showed more heavy and oak dominated as expected, however the toast and richness was not as over the top as I was expecting. I found earthy clay, tobacco, leather and rich black and blue fruits present. This was a solid bottle, while stylistically not my preference.

Oak is pretty showy still, heavy toast and not well integrated. Fruit underneath is pretty nice and it’s supported by acidity. Nice enough wine but the oak is a bit too modern, overwrought with wood treatment and I don’t think it will ever become better/great

Mature and complex aroma of blackberries, earth, cocoa, massive black fruits and a hint of raisins. Balanced on the palate. Paired with star-anise sous vide beef tenderloin which was magical during outdoor summer evening dinner to celebrate family get together after Covid months of separation. Magnum helped to retain flavours longer than a 750. Leaving the peak drinking window with flavours mellowing after an hour drinking window. Drink now.
