Pale gold. Nose of lemons and melons. With air, quince, mandarin and other non-citrus fruits. The wine has finally swallowed its oak. Lovely palate, slightly warm fruited and full throttle in style but it fines down with more air and a flinty finish appears. Much improved on day 2 (and even better day 3!). I would decant this.

This chardonnay undergoes full malo in 30% new oak; winemaker Nick Farr said that the wine was "austere" despite this, but that's rubbish. Attractive fruit flavours (fresh watermelon, mineral water, candied lemon, caramelised pear, dried apricot) clash with obtrusive and poorly-integrated oak.

This was very good. Lovely flinty mineral theme generates a lot of interest. Plenty of upside to this given a bit of time.
