  • USD 600 for an Aussie shiraz, the price point blew my mind and attracted me to participate in AsiaEuro's Torbreck Wine dinner last week.

What's a Laird? In Scotland, he is the Lord of the Manor, and this is the price and sophistication flagship of Torbreck. Laird comes from a single vineyard, Gnadenfrei in the Barossa.

Powerful and dense, ultra fine tannins, and complex palate of blackfruit and plums. Elegant! The finish is super amazing as well, long... so long.

Great time with WMK, Mika and HS at EQ's Sabayon, wines were super but company even more fun!

I think in a matter of 5 to 10 years this will surpass 4 stars, but at this price point it becomes a challenging value proposition..

Nevertheless a privilege to enjoy such a magnificent wine.. generous pours on the night too!

  • Deep and dark purple/garnet core, slight ruby rim. Nose: intense and complex aromas hit you in the face - blackberry, plums, dark chocolate, cloves, charred oak, roasted meats, liquorice and vanilla. Palate: full bodied and dense, fine integrated tannins, velvety texture and persistent finish. So much power. Big but outstanding. Needs another 5-10 years I think.

  • A monumental Australian Shiraz.

3hrs decant. Tasted blind.Senational wine. Screaming Barossa Shiraz out of bottle, Shiraz at its very best with ultra balance of power and elegance.
Enchanting nose from classic barossa old vine: eucalyptus, minty, tranparent minerals, powerful concentrated red fruits, earthy, creamy sweet oak, layered palate. All wrapped in a balanced and velvet package despite its 15.0% abv. It will last forever.

  • 06 Torbreck Laird- one of the most expensive Shiraz in the market with only 2 barrels made each year. 06 is the second vintage. Nose is intense with sweet black currant, purple fruit, oak, herbs and vanilla. A very elegant shiraz that is powerful but not overwhelming. But I still prefer the Hill of Grace over this. Interesting to try but hard to pull the trigger when it is over USD500.

  • 27L Torbreck "The Laird" 2006.... 27 litres!!!! Only £29,942 (~$56,000)... do I get VAT back?!?!

Another cool find at Hedonism Wines in London, mind boggling.

Also did not get to taste this specific bottle, want to reserve anything higher for something I've tried.
