Tasted double blind from a small capped bottle (full bottles split for a zoom tasting): Clearly Napa cab. A bit heavy. Pruney and some vanilla oak. Some decent fruit in there. Palate is heavy and pruney. Dusty finish but marred by charred oak. Nose - 4/6 Palate - 3.5/6, Finish - 2/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 0/2 = 9.5/20.
Day 2: this had really fallen apart and showed rotting leaves and charred oak.

Vinetasters: 1996 Bordeaux (Skokie, IL): Served double blind in a flight of 1996 Bordeaux. High-toned, modernist nose that is obnoxiously bad. Cloyingly sweet fruit on the nose with a significant alcoholic burn. Sickly cherry notes on the palate as well. Tannins and not much else. Some sort of modernist trash (I actually thought this was syrah). My 12th, group's 8th.

A truly great Napa Cab. Still tons of fruit. Complex aromas of cedar, blackberries, currants. Tannins have softened and the fruit is forward. Silky smooth on the palate. Delicious. My last bottle unfortunately. Bought on release from a local retailer. The tag was still on bottle. $29.99. Wish those days were here again.

Not much going on here...this wine was drinkable but didn't have many distinguishable flavors that stood out
