  • Again, needed an hour to open up. Unripe pineapple, citrus, nice roundness and toasted marshmallow from age that fades behind the medium rich fruit notes. I would not say improved over 10 years, but definitely held its quality. Brilliant. Ageless.

  • There was a time when Freeman was a "must stop" on every trip to Sonoma County. That has changed a bit since there has been more demands on my time whilst visiting wine country, but the tiny winery in Sebastopol still maintains real estate in my heart. Most of that affinity is a result of the time that I spent with the former Assistant Winemaker Eric Buffington. Still quite pale in the glass, with classic lemon curd, a hint of oak, and a touch of vanilla. The palate is delectable: good fruit, incredible acidity, and a finish that lasts longer than my post three hour ride showers. Whoa. thedunkencyclist.com

  • Needed an hour to open up...decant for air? Originally, bit of cabbagy mess on the nose, unfocused palate. After an hour, lovely beam of pineapple fruit with citrus, minerality. Medium finish. Can't wait to try on the second day!

  • This was a great bottle of wine. Forget about the fact that it was from the Chardonnay grape, that you now hate oak (I think its the fashionable thing to say these days, right??) and all that stuff.

This is a juicy mineral floral round really long finish with a hint of vanilla(OMGthedreadedoakbarrel!) gulp in every sip. Intense in its focus (in that overly achieving New World kind of way) but just light and nimble enough to avoid being cloying or even slow at times. Think long long clean finish if that makes any sense.

Anyway, this wine has aged nicely and is probably drinking at peak. If you are lucky enough to still have any (this is my last bottle, alas) use the next opportunity to impress someone special (good or bad for what ever reason).

  • Heritage Grand Wine Tasting (Ritz-Carlton - Chicago, IL): Mineral driven. Lime zest, some funk. A touch of toast on the finish. Very nice.
