Dark purple color. Lots of vanilla on the nose along with some blue fruit. Taste follows nose with plenty of vanilla, blueberries, black currants. This is really one-dimensional and lacks any complexity, even after a decade of time.
I really don't know why this wine receives so much praise. It's alcoholic fruit juice. If you like fruit bombs with tons of oak this may be for you. Definitely not my style.

Smoked meats and exotic fruits bouquet. Dry to off dry, it has a ripe fruit flavor and finish, balanced by just a hint of tannins. Thick textured and slightly warm. Smooth palate. Doesn’t quite have the intensity and concentration of the 2012 vintage, but it’s a big boy. Drink soon. I think it’s at its best now.

This must be one of the most polarizing wines on CT! scores from 85-94...
Decanted off moderate sediment, this is all about its jammy fruit and oak, not complex or structured.
My last note: 5/21/2016 rated 90 points: PHMG WAG: 2013 Napa Reds (Lyon Valley): Winner of the "Most Controversial WOTN" award. Tom poured his right into his wife's glass. Lots of glycerin helps create the mouthfeel of syrup and the candied fruit: red = black. Tannins are soft leaving you with a cherry vanilla finish. Not my favorite, others liked it more. I'll try again in a year or two, see if it integrates, (liked the port comment by wjschenk). (5923 views)
My thought now is, "what tannins?", "would this be good on pancakes?"
Wine geeks who like structure will save this for their family or golf buddies (BHP1994's note below!).

After my first few sips, I kept thinking "why do they make this wine?" Really harsh upon opening and didn't open up until I gave up and tried again on day 2. It opened up, but still tasted like alcoholic grape juice with just not much complexity. After 10 years, was hoping this was something more. Glad it was a gift.

Ripe, a little sweet, but not over the top. It’s better balanced than I expected it to be. Not really a style I would choose with my own money — it just lacks energy, tension, precision — but happy enough to drink it as a gift or on someone else’s dime.

Brought this bottle to a group thing after a golf tournament. We'd been having fun on the golf course so I know our pallets would be a bit ruined for the great stuff. That being said, this was STILL not good. I haven't tasted a wine that tasted like concord grape juice in a long time. That's what this was. For me, undrinkable. For my golfing buddies, apparently they love grape juice - bottle was drained in no time.

No decant, as others have mentioned this is a dark, concentrated, intensely rich, sweet fruit, one dimensional flavors go on and on, with little discernible tannins. Drink soon while the fruit is still present!

Pnp. Dark purple-crimson in colour. Nose of black cherries, vanilla, cotton candy, with some blackberries. On the palate, sweet plums with black cherries with some chalky vanilla are noted; minimal tannins. Medium bodied with a medium finish. Last of the 1 liter bottles out of 6 purchased in 2015.

Not a big Caymus fan, but my 2nd bottle this week! Better than expected. Dark fruit with subtle hints of oak and vanilla that were better integrated than other Caymus experiences. Medium depth. Paired nicely with smoked pork chops.

2012-2014 Napa Cabs (and blends) Night (Bobby Van's on Park, NYC): Part of a 2012-2014 Napa Cabernet and Blend night with my wine group. Opened but not decanted for over 90 minutes before pouring. This was our last wine of the night. About half of my wine group really loved it. For me, I have a hard time getting past the Cotton Candy smell and taste. My previous bottle, in 2017, was full bodied and fruit forward. It is still fruit forward, but now it is Medium bodied. This was out of the 1 liter bottle. I think in comparison to other Napa Cabs of a similar vintage it would rate a 90. On it's own, I'd bump it up a point, as the sweetness would be less noticeable. Since I had it as part of a tasting, I'll go with the 90.

Short 30 minute decant and it was lovely. I don’t typically like the newer vintages. This one seems to have held up and soften overtime well, integrated still complex, still slightly sweet, but not the fruit bombs of the newer vintages. Could easily last another 3 to 5 years but it’s in its prime now.

Deep purple color. Ripe dark fruit bouquet and flavor. Soft, mature wine with a touch of residual. Not as sweet as most Caymus vintages, particularly those in recent years. Supple enjoyable wine with oak notes throughout.

I don't know why I bother opening Caymus at less than 12-15 years of age. This was young, brooding, and still governed by loads of sweet, plump, bubble-gummy, baby fat. With plenty of air pleasant notes of dark fruit, creme de cassis, wintergreen, mocha, and vanilla come forward, but this needs more time to come together. Excellent now if you like New World, hussy fruit and voluptuousness, but hold if you like more balance in your Cabs.

My last Bottle. Paired with filet mignon and dark chocolate truffle cake. Dark fruit flavors, somewhat extracted but still showing fresh and lively. Dark fruit flavors of blackberry and cassis. Hint of dark chocolate and cola on the medium+ finish. Nicely done.

Very dark and inky with a little violet in the glass. Nose has a slight cedar plank and cigar box with a hint of vanilla. There’s still some fruit on the nose, like a hostess cherry pie. On the palate, it’s not the big fruit bomb as it used to be when I tasted it in 2016. It still has a jammy or syrupy mouthfeel with red fruits. Its sweet, which reminds me almost of prune juice. I feel like it’s gotten very soft and may be past it’s prime. I was hoping it would get better with age. It’s very easy to drink so guests loved it. It’s not for me.

Lovely floral aromas. Deep dark red nearly inky in the glass. Tannins are soft round and smooth framed by bracing acidity. Flavors of dark chocolate, mocha, dark fruit. Lovely long finish.

I loved this wine! I thought it was balanced, rich, classic Napa Cab. Still lots of life left. High quality. Dark, dark purple color, rich mouthfeel. Even from front to back palate.

Dense, dark purple, with violet and vanilla aromas. Rich and full bodied, balanced, with plum, blackberry and vanilla. Not the monster folks like to make it out to be. Very drinkable and great with a grilled t-bone.

One of a few received as a gift. Decanted and drank over a few hours. While it opened up, this was just ok. 4 of us didn't finish the bottle which is almost unheard of. It was not a dessert like others have noted, but had a touch of sweetness with vanilla, oak and blue fruits. Nothing special. Will see if some age improves this.

This is a very nice cab - it's also a Caymus so you know what you're getting. It's NOT a dessert wine - that sort of comment is a bit excessive, I feel. After a bit of air the bitter edges blew off and the wine opened up quite a bit. Yes, it's fruit forward and very jammy and juicy. But that can be fun. Enjoy now - no reason to continue to hold.

This is a dessert wine. There is a ton of vanilla cream along with lots of sweet berry fruit. The overly sweet, creamy flavors are a world apart from classic Napa Cabernet.
On a more positive note, and somewhat surprisingly, the wine held it's flavor profile and structure until it was finished on the third night. For my wife and I, it took a while to get through the bottle.
I am not rating this as, even though the wine does not appeal to my taste, I can understand how someone looking for a dessert-like wine would enjoy it. Just glad that I did not pay for the bottle.

This was the first bottle of nice wine I ever received. Unfortunately, I received and stored it long before I got into wine. It went through two moves and one wine rack on top of my refrigerator, before being stored properly for the past year.
Unfortunately but unsurprisingly, it was cooked. Decent palate, if a bit flat, but vinegar on the finish. Played Taps and ceremoniously poured into the sink, and we talked about the person who gave it me, so I guess it served it’s purpose. Live and learn!

Slowly getting, better lots of dark fruit, and sweet syrupy characteristics are fading. Hints of vanilla, coffee bean, and cassis flavors coming through. Napa soils just starting to show slightly in the background. I thought these weren’t age worthy but I think I’m wrong.

Inky purple. Nose of wood shop sweepings, black cherry, green pepper. Palate is thick with fruit, seems black cherry to me, tannins mesh well. Unctuous. But very adolescent. And early at that. I can give it only 93 now due to a certain lack of complexity but I think it is going places. My reaction a few year ago was, Darn, how much did I pay for this. Now, it's, darn, how little did I pay for this! Oh yea, impressive sediment

Bags of blueberry fruit and cassis. Very supple tannins and a nice level of acidity, making it taste very juicy and extremely easy to quaff. With the dominance of the fruit many other characteristics were hard to find. Suspect it could use another couple of years for the fruit to pare back, though I wouldn't leave it much longer given the absence of major structure.

Overextracted and very fruit forward even after 8 years in the bottle. Not at all varietally correct, and if tasted blind might even guess it was a Zin. Would be extremely disappointed if ordered with a steak as it doesn't have the tannins or body to stand up to that type of meal. That said, is definitely a crowd pleaser if this is what floats your boat. Easy drinking with no food required.

Its all about blue and black berry fruits with shadings of slate and mineral earth. The tannins are there, but they are 'fine' and add structure but still feel integrated. As nice as this is now, the dark fruit was begging for a few more years that would add more points. Drank dec 31 2020, so if you have this, put it off 2 more years and it should really turn heads

Lots of ripe fruit, young tasting, perhaps a hint of maturation starting to take place that I would have thought would be underway by now. I’m hoping this is going to mature if it does it could be really good in 5 years.

Typical Caymus...Big, round, fruit forward with flavors of boysenberry, blackberry, chocolate and saddle leather. Full bodied with a medium, slightly, oaky finish. Not meant to be aged in my opinion, at seven years of age, this was in a great place. Still a bit of tannic backbone but very nicely balanced and integrated.

I love the Napa expression of Cabernet - I can appreciate those that feel it can be overmanaged by some producers, but it’s rare you get a “bad” Napa wine at this price point. This is terrible - how this is passed off as being better than what you can get for $15 at the grocery store is a mystery to me. Is it on pure reputation? I bought these 4-5 years ago as an experiment, thinking if you let them age, maybe all the candied effect will burn off. Not at all - low grade wine. Bless the producer for convincing the masses this is a quality product.
My last bottle of the 2013. Classic Caymus. Ruby colored with medium legs. Earthy, alcohol nose. Fruit forward taste with oak. Medium/full body with a medium finish.

Consistent with the last bottle. Fruit forward like most new world wines, if that is your preferred profile it's great. I personally prefer more old world style so I would rate this a little lower than my wife. It's balanced, very well made and somewhat nuanced. The 91 is between what we both would rate. I'm glad to have a few more bottles and will enjoy them over the next year or two.

It was good, but not what I expected for the hype. I was finally going to buy a bottle of Caymus and was told by a few people the 2018 (current vintage) was under performing. I went hunting for an older vintage. This did not have the residual sugar I’ve heard so much about. It was good this prime rib but under performed for me.

Initially disappointing. It took an hour before this came around. Never got any nose, but the middle was full of pleasant chocolate. Lots of chocolate. Nice smooth finish too. I don't understand all the comments that speak about a "fruit bomb". I didn't see that at all. Just pleasant all the way through.

I don’t drink many highly extracted wines, but I needed one to accompany a Vegetable Risotto with (lots of) Cave Man Blue Cheese. This 2103 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon performed that task admirably, as its Port-like qualities of sweetness and acid backbone stood up to the intense, flavorful cheese. However, I have serious doubts about the intrinsic value of the wine. It has a huge, jammy, and simplistic style that was fun for me 25-30 years ago when such sweetness, extraction and size were novel, but which has long outlived its novelty and leaves no room for subtlety or complexity. In the end, this comes down to a question of style and preference. There are many people who really like this type of wine. I get that, and can even enjoy it on occasion, but for me it is much too simple and expensive for what it delivers.

Fantastic! Blackberry, blueberry pie, and dark currant intertwine harmoniously with light anise, milk chocolate, cedar and earth notes on the palate. Full body, moderate, integrated tannins, good acidity and great balance. Big and smooth. A pleasing, medium thick velvety mouthfeel and texture. It needed about an hour to open up. Went well with fillet mignon and friends. Fair (+) QPR at $120

Big fruit with limited tannic structure. No need for decanting. Notes of plum, blackberry syrup, brown sugar, tobacco, and chocolate. Borderline over the top fruity and turns somewhat flabby after about an hour of air time, but delicious nevertheless. Drink up!

Certainly better than I remember from the last time I tasted this vintage back in 2015. A little bit flabby, tannins are fully integrated and there is a LOT of fruit here. Less structured than most 2013’s from Napa. As a result, a bit one dimensional, but very tasty if you’re down with slightly over the top new world Cabernet. This is actually getting slightly worse as I drink it though and I don’t see this improving with more age. Drink up.

Pnp from a 1L bottle. Has a dark purple in colour; nose of sweet black cherries, blackberries, and some brown sugar. On the palate, there is a sweet and concentrated black and purple fruit profile with a hint of vanilla extract and a chalky finish. Light-medium bodied with a medium finish. Not sure if this will evolve or develop further. Last tasted November 2015.

Next to last bottle of the case, very nice fruit, dense, concentrated, dark berry, lacks structure for the long term, if you are looking for a Napa cab to hold for 20 plus years this vintage or any recent vintage of Caymus would not be recommended,

Really disappointed. Four wines - this was the only one people left behind. Frankly, its hard to find much good about this wine.
People complained about this being a fruit bomb - but I didn't find that. I found a wine that was a bit of a mess - too hot, to tight, too tannic. I can't say anything was well done with this wine.
Bottom line - not delicious.
I have three more bottles. Perhaps this one was an aberration.
Celebrating Valentine's Day with Steph. Dark color, clarity was good and full body. Deep and rich flavors - dark berries, vanilla, tacaco, leather Delicious!

I won't score as seldom is it more true than beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To many this would scarcely constitute wine so heavily manipulated is it. Yet it is drinkable, and I even found I liked some of the elements, enjoying the over-the-topness.
So--the colour is dark. Mega-purple maybe? (nb no list of "ingredients".) Nose of crème de cassis--under but mostly over-ripe smells. Oak in abundance--maybe added. Fullish in the palate. Palate is soft and fades quickly. Initially no impression whatsoever of either tannin or acidity, then these arrive somewhat later--especially the tannins which somehow don't feel quite natural either. Oddly the high alcohol doesn't pop out. So this feels contrived at every turn. Curious and sort of enjoyable, but not worth the money.
Served at my sisters. Purple fruit - blackberry, dark currants, dark cherry, and a little dark plum. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration but awfully rich, sweet, and over-extracted. Fairly long finish but once again really rich/sweet. No need for dessert after having this wine. I'll refrain from rating it because like the 2012, 2014, and 2015 vintages of Caymus this style just isn't my thing. However, for those that do enjoy this style you may want to check-out the 2014 and 2015 vintages of the Quilt cabernet that are also made by the Wagner family (yet a little cheaper) and the 2015 Austin Hope cab.

PNP, this is the sixth 2013 bottle I have opened, still have 8 more left, I have tasted many of the modern version as well as their early vintages. The early vintages were very good but lacked the personality of these controversial later vintages. That being said after reading many of the previous notes most loved the jammy sweet fruit, the hints of vanilla and the sweet smooth finish, others hated the jammy sweet fruit, the hints of vanilla and the sweet smooth finish I am with the former. Big, ripe fruit-forward Napa Cabernet. Other reviews describing the jam qualities are spot on. Friends described it as a "fruit bomb", but still raved about it's flavor and structure. Not my particular favorite, but understand its attraction. We did a pnp with a cheese plate, and probably would have been better with some time in the decanter. Also may benefit from a few more years in the cellar.

This is exactly what it is - super fun to drink; it's not going to blow you away with complexity, it's a jammy, full-bodied wine with a good finish and a oak on the finish. Are there better more complex bottles at this price-point? Definitely. Is this reliable and just fun to drink? Definitely. I'm not going into the nuances of this wine, because aside from the big dark fruit shooting across my palate, there aren't any - but that's what it is, a no-holds-barred flavorful pour. 91+

Very similar to my tasting note that I wrote back on 12/25/16. Only difference is that I will expand on my comments about this vintage’s structure and slightly more complexity than the ‘12 and ‘14. Tonight’s tasting does showcase the crowd pleasing nature of this wine, but also its structure too. PnP from a 1L bottle. Of the three vintages, I believe this one can age a bit and possibly get better.

Decanted 1hr, extremely dark, sweet, syrupy, wine on steroids, currants, vanilla, welchs grape juice, cassis, blackberry, black cherry, jammy, cough syrup, oaky, blueberry pie, fruit bomb, alcoholic, did I leave anything out, these are all words used by CT reviewers to describe this obviously complex juice from both lovers and haters and I cannot disagree with either of them.

From 1L bottle... PnP and had with pizza. Tasted overly alcoholic and not like I remember from the last time I had this a year ago. I probably should have decanted at least an hour or two to let it open up, but I'm not sure that would have helped. Will reconsider if I purchase the 2014 now.

I echo other recent comments. It is jammy, fruity and very sweet. Its certainly a bit over the top compared to vintage Caymus. Also agree is is almost sweet enough to be considered a port. Perhaps it will mellow in time but this is their style. Definitely agree it could use a few more years in the cellar and will only improve with time.

kind of the oddball of the group so I won't rank comparatively
The wine is as everyone says - extracted, heavily oaked, loads of vanilla and sweet jammy plum fruit. Drinks a little like a port (including the high alcohol). But there's no need to bash - enjoy it for what it is, a red wine to the sweet side that can stand up to a cigar, steak, or Mack truck.

Drank it very late at night and the bottle didn't make it to see how it would taste after an hour or two. Drank it with folks who had heard all about Caymus, but had never tasted it. One commented, Oh, this is what "jammy" means. The Caymus is very distinctive tasting, and quite a bit different from other high end wines, but it is really consistent and really drinkable. On any vintage, I have never been disappointed

This is quite jammy but still delicious. Great nose, big body filled with black and blue berries, chocolate and spices. I can see how some are not a fan of this, but if you like the heavy jammy wines, this does have some complexity to make it worth the money.

If you consider Rombauer Chardonnay 'Cougar Crack' then this is its counterpart. Would be quite good if bottled in a 375ml and sold as a dessert wine and embraced that expectation, but alas, it is trying to game the higher end Cab market. It's wines like these that gives ammunition to France to laugh at Napa's efforts. If you like flabby skittle notes and a long lingering finish of stewed raisins, this wine is for you.
This one got pulled out and FMIII and I scurried over to grab a taste. I was curious, to say the least. Really dark concentration. Lots of sweet blue fruit, creamy and tons of oak. Not my style but I'll say it's in line with the high octane Napa style of many cult type wines.

The sweetness has subsided over time, which is a major plus. It still needs a good 1-2 hour decant to erase the slight metallic edge that was initially present. What emerges is a very fine cab with fine vanilla notes.

I have had other vintages and thought it was a decent wine. This one had strong notes of oak, anise and spice. Almost like a cough syrup. Just not for my palate. For me at 60+ there are much better choices for 2013 north coast napa wines and plenty of other fish in the sea.

The soup that eats like a meal. Obviously one of the most polarizing wines on CT. Well, I'm going to be Switzerland and land right in the middle. Definitely a monster cab, that drinks with a fork. But I thought it paired quite nicely with a simple chain pizza. So haters hate, lovers luv, and meh-ers meh.

About half of my wine group really loved it. For me, it just doesn't have much structure. I wonder if it will improve with age. Its full bodied and fruit forward. This was out of the 1 liter bottle.

Not sure why so many others liked this, but I found it to be slightly sweet, very little fruit, and a weak finish. Had I paid $60-70 for this, I would be outraged. Maybe it was a bad bottle.....

Nice nose, almost black color, fairly spicy, full bodied. The other three in the party just loved it but it really didn't do much for me. Not a bad wine--just had a flavor profile that I was not particularly fond of. Still, the bottle disappeared pretty fast. Based on the reaction of my friends I would buy a bottle for a gift but would not buy another bottle for myself. I hope I like the 2012 I have in my cellar better. I've had much cheaper wines that I liked a whole lot more.

Deep ruby red with purplish hue. Definite oak influence on the nose with a touch of smoke, and coated with dark berries. Moderate tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. Fruit forward and tons of baking spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and lots of dark cocoa. Medium finish. Drink till 2022.

This is one of those wines that are loved by some and and disliked by an equal number. It's fuity with a beautiful nose of violets, blackberries, and oak and tastes of cassis, mocha, graphite, and vanilla. This wine is full bodied and rich. Great with grilled NY Strips. A real crowd pleaser.

Well balanced, not very complex, straight forward oak and berry flavors. Nose was dusty. Had to let it breathe for about an hour before it really began to open up. Nice but nothing earth shattering. Would be better with another few years of age but very drinkable now with decant.

If I had wanted a hot fudge sundae with blueberry syrup, I would have gone to 31 flavors. Seriously though, just too over oaked, over extracted, over concentrated, and generally overdone for me. I used to enjoy wines from this producer about 15-20 years ago, but not anymore. Fans of the big blowsy hot syrupy genre will love this wine. Give me Ridge Monte Bello and Dunn Howell Mountain. 80 points is quite generous. Ugh.

Similar to last bottle.. Opened at a client dinner and they all immediately loved the aroma and lush flavor.... I guess I feel that it has immediate appeal but not sure it stands up to deeper inspection as to complexity and interestingness ... Best if you want to impress people who aren't connoisseurs (not saying I am a connoisseur)

A neighbor brought this bottle over. Dark red and black fruit - dark cherry, currants, plum, and blackberry. Smooth mid-palate but quite rich, sweet, and fruit forward. Decent finish but not overly long nor deep. Popped and poured but drank over around three hours. Drank next to a 2010 Lewelling Wight cab and frankly I had a very hard time drinking the Caymus next the Lewelling. Just not my style - too rich and sweet. If tasting blind I would be more inclined to bet that it was a quality syrah. However, my wife really enjoyed it but she tends to prefer sweeter/richer reds.
The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis). It tastes like red currant. The body is full. The wine has flabby texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. It was a gift from an in-law who get her guidance from total wine. It would be a great party wine (aside from the price) and I could see 20 people and some burgers going through a case.

Opened for NYE..... Obvious crowd pleaser...lush aromas in the glass And very fruit forward on the tongue.... It's full of berry bursting out.. It has a sweet profile and lacks the terroir and complexity that I look for in other wines... Would I buy it again... Yes ...I enjoyed it It's like an attractive blonde....hot at first glance till you realize she's wearing too much makeup
Fabulous. Opulent, will knock you out. A fist to the jaw. Nose very subdued, need to wait it for an hour or so. Berries and coffee finish. Medium body, dark purple color. Spectacular with meat.

Pop and poured from 1L bottle with the intent for the broader group to consume throughout the night. While it had stiff competition tonight, I still appreciate how easy drinking / crowd pleasing it always shows. This would be the ideal wine to give to someone who claims they don't like red wine as it will be the "gateway" wine to turn them into red wine drinkers. Consistent Caymus flavor profile... deep plum "stain your teeth" purple color with signature sweet candied and vanilla finish. Might this be the next table syrup flavor at IHOP? I'm not knocking it... I appreciate what it is, but you just have to be in the mood for it. If you are looking for an intellectual tasting experience, then you won't find it here. The '13 vintage does have better balance and structure than the extroverted and flamboyant '12 40th edition.

Caymus' rich bountiful gen of a wine. This is a special occasion wine to shared only with the best of friends!! Flavors just leap out of the glass - deep color and so smooth. Holding the others for two year intervals

Tasted at the winery. Another hugely extracted, high alcohol, high oak offering from Caymus. Slightly better than the 2012 but not much. I can think of a lot of wines that offer similar traits to the Caymus for less money.
Check out the 2013 Hall Cab. It'll cost you half what the Caymus does and delivers the goods, in my opinion. That said, this bottle flies off of the steakhouse shelves from what my ITB friends say. A name still means a lot.

Second of five wines in a blind tasting of Cabernet Sauvignons in the $50 to $75 price range. This one came in first among a group of 10 tasters. I selected this second just ahead of a 2012 Jordan (and behind a 2010 Don Melchor). Inky dark purple. Almost black. Like most Caymus wines it is very fruit forward with plum, dark and red cherries, vanilla and chocolate on the nose and palate. Personally I think it is too sweet and lacks sufficient tannins and acidity to balance the sweetness. That said, it's a crowd pleaser as demonstrated by the results.
Was surprised by the results and my own rating. Overall, a 91-92, but will rate as a 92 in deference to the group and as the "winner" of the blind tasting.

A friend insisted, had to share, they said. A travesty, on every level. I gagged, more than once, and was unable to finish the glass. What a sad, sad commentary.
Paired with steak and it was too sweet! Who ever heard of this? Was good to drink alone, but don't try to pair like a Napa Cab because it doesn't work. Not a big fan.

Tasty, inky, sweet, fruity, flabby, with weak and sad tannins. It's not bad, it's just a shortcut to pleasure that leaves you feeling empty at the end. Not a soulful wine.
Color is like Blueberry juice. It's fruit forward Wagner wine but it's young & will benefit with aging. Nonetheless it's still easily drinkable at this young age & will only get better with age. And the 2014 is even better & more structured.

Very similar in style to the 2012, but not as rich and viscous. Nevertheless, this is still a typical Wagner Caymus with the expected deep "stain your teeth" purple color that is an easy drinking crowd pleaser. Blackberry cobbler, toasted oak, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. For the price, I'd rather drink a bottle of '03 Chateau Lascombes from Margaux. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it still.

Drank 1.5 liter bottle for best friend's birthday dinner. It was a big hit. PNP on the initial glass and decanted the balance. Very fruit forward with black cherry, plum and blueberries. Also strong vanilla notes that fade as the wine decants and oxidizes. Very smooth, not quite velvety. Improves over time.

So I heard mixed reviews on this so I was skeptical. Explosive fruit that's just in your face up front, black and blue fruits, tons of blueberry throughout the palate, some sweet cooking spices but that's it. The structure is a bit flat at this time, so I don't see this aging well at all, however it's very good now to sip during dinner. Overall it's a good wine, but not worth the price of admission.
Oak Bomb. Enjoyed it more after a little decant. Could serve its purpose later in the evening as a second stringer. The none wine-o's will probably go nuts for this.

What a beautiful wine and vintage from Caymus Vineyards ! Fat and opulent style of Cabernet Sauvignon. A real Caymus Cab. The wine has a purple color and lots of plump and blackberry fruit in The taste. Full-bodied and not oak dominated. Great wine !

Dark red-violet color. Goodness gracious, this is disappointing wine and a disappointing product in so many ways. First, that is just such simple wine for $50. It is very heavily oaked, even for cabernet carrying the Caymus name, and that's significant. There is inbalance in this bottle, I think coming from young vines over-cropped and ultra-ripe at harvest, then with a slathering of too much young toast-y oak American oak. The base material just did not have for the concentration in the grapes to support the oak program; it has great ripeness, yes, but that is not concentration. This is a product which represents - to me - one of the worst of market trends, using a well-known Napa Valley producer name (Caymus) to sell dreck at twice its going rate. I wouldn't buy it at $25 ! Resist the temptation. Bottle #1 of one.
Wowzers. I just love Caymus. Such a consistent wine from year to year. Strong vanilla, like sucking on a vanilla bean. BBQ, maple, fruit forward. Really solid tannins - but I love a young, tannic wine. Dark as night in the glass. Wonderful.

Such a great wine, though needs more time. Smoked pork and maple syrup pancakes were two flavor notes I couldnt get away from. Firm tannins, great viscosity, almost purple in color. Better than the 2014
Decated and poured, tremendous showing, paired with Osso buco and braised short ribs @ a restaurant in Pacific Grove CA. This bottle was no where near as sweet as many of the other recent vintages as well as privious couple of bottles of the 2013 consumed earlier. With that all said this bottle still had plenty of the usual Caymus signature traits, rich, extracted, concentrated, dark, plenty of vanilla extract and very smooth with nearly no acidity or structure and I loved it my sister in-law was blown away by it. Drink while the fruit is fresh and lively!

There are plenty of tasting notes here so I'll just add this: over the six years from 2006 to 2011 the folks at Caymus averaged a production volume of 54,600 cases; in 2012 and 2013 Caymus jumped to 121,000 cases! Double the volume! For me - and a few friends - the 2011 was the last good bottle of Caymus Cab. On the surface, it would appear that Caymus has moved from quality to quantity. Steak houses across America will rejoice as the Caymus name will surely fetch $120 a bottle on the wine list. The 2013 is a average Cab and, in my opinion, overpriced for what it offers. Sadly, I will be buying a lot less Caymus in the future.

Been 9 months since last tasted, thick, dark, extracted, syrupy with vanilla notes. A crowd pleasing wine that paired well with BBQ. This as most Caymus cab's has low acidity and structure that will never appeal to everyone!

Parker is a psychic, but that's why his opinion is so highly valued. On my initial tasting, the deeper complexities were hidden by the sweet fruit. Parker saw through this, but many railed about how the wine was too syrupy and sweet. Now, the wine is more integrated and balanced and the sweetness has taken a back seat to the finer aspects of the wine. She's a beauty. Enjoy

Out of curiosity I purchased a bottle of this to share with friends over a steak dinner. At the restaurant, I paid a premium for the bottle ($110). I don't get the negative fuss over this wine. It is fruit forward, medium body with fine integrated tannins giving it a somewhat velvety mouth feel. Yes it is overpriced for this price point. Yes there are much better Napa cabs with longer finishes and more structure/complexity. But I don't get these descriptions as "syrupy" or overly sweet. I didn't get that. The whole group enjoyed the bottle. My palette may not be the most sophisticated, but everyone in our group felt this wine was an excellent indulgence with our steaks.
PHMG WAG: 2013 Napa Reds (Lyon Valley): Winner of the "Most Controversial WOTN" award.

Pop and pour. Took one sip and that was it for me. Had to open something else; this was not drinkable. And by no means was this corked or turned; it was just a mess. Tried it again the next day just in the name of science, no improvement.
I take no joy in ripping wines, but this was such an epic disappointment. I have had some good (and even very good) Caymus wines in the past, but do not buy it every vintage. Given the quality of fruit in Napa in 2013, this is an abomination. This was like raspberry-vanilla snowcone syrup. Or what I would imagine it would take like if you melted raspberry cotton candy that was wound around a stick of oak. By no means should this pass as a representation of Napa wine.
Decanted for a couple of hrs; purple/black; heavy oak nose, rich chocolate/cherry flavors, mod. tannins, med. finish; delicious but young (good Derby wine)

Tasted next to a 2013 Barnett Spring Mountain cab to do a comparison at the price point of $65-70. This lacked structure, definition, backbone...anything interesting. Far too sweet and almost medicinal; if I wanted this profile I'd buy a LBV Porto. Barnett was clear winner. Caymus tasting notes: caramel, grape cough syrup, brown sugar, and overripe plum; simple, smooth tannins; no earthiness or Rutherford dust. This is Apothic Silk for people with too much money. Stay away; there are SO many bottles better at the price point.

Inky purple in color with good legs. I get chalk, vanilla, and boysenberry on the nose. Spice on the palate with notes of mint, licorice, and black cherry. Very smooth; almost no tannic aftertaste on the long, warm finish. This is a different take on a California Cab and I like it. Not at all like 2012 Caymus 40.

We tried this at the winery and wasn't impressed. The wine was served too cold so we felt like we didn't get a good taste, bought a bottle to give it another chance. Fruity, hints of vanilla, soft tanins, very sweat. I decanted for almost 2 hours. But ultimately we decided this wine was just "okay." And if it's just "okay" then it's not worth the price point.

Lots of vanilla with a hint of mocha. Very ripe and fruity. I agree with everyone with it being a little too sweet. It feels a little artificial because of the sweetness. Very disappointed and at its price point, I dont think it is worth the money.

Was best 2 hours after opening. the longer it went the more the alcohol dominated the finish in a really rough way. I think this is over priced at $70-80 per bottle.
Huge waves of vanilla and oak on the nose. Palate is super ripe. Sweet. Slight hint of cough syrup. For my palate, it is just dialed up a few notches too many.

So I decanted this bottle a few hours along with more age time in the bottle since my first post. Was concerned about the sweetness on my initial post, which I rated a 91. The 3 hour decant basically takes care of that issue. Much more smooth and balanced with very nice complexity. Is it a 94 as Parker rated? I'd say so.

This is pretty awful for the price. I get that people want wine that is fruity, big, and has silky tannins but you can have structure, nuance, and a color that isn't 90 percent purple dye. I would take any caymus from the past 25 years (starting 2010 and going back) over this wine. I would take wines for half the price over this wine. The worse they make this wine the higher they price it. Great business people at the Wagner family, unfortunately the wine has dipped in quality severely in the past few years. People buying this should stick to vodka
Dark purple in the glass. I'm getting lots of floral notes mostly violets. The 2013's so far have been very juicy and this is no exception. Huge teeth staining tannins that settle with air but this is obviously a baby and needs time. Still delicious now.

PnP with lasagna at Panzanella. Larry was there too. The nose just screamed oak, fruit, vanilla. On the palate this is just so fruity and sweet. Too sweet for me. Chocolate and lots of vanilla with underlying fruits across the red, blue, black spectrum. Basically a Neapolitan. I wanted to like it, I really did but it was just too much. Maybe it will calm down at some point. 88 with optimism for the future.

Rich and spicy but not as syrupy or over the top like the past few vintages. There is more tannin and minerality. Still could mistake for a Zin if tasting blind but it's their house style now and its better than the 2012. Crowd pleaser. Could get better with aging as it has more stuffing than past vintages.

Deep purple in color with big flavor to match. The nose is full of oak, vanilla, black berries, and plum. The acid is well balanced and the alcohol is obvious both on the nose and mouth. The mouth has nice round tannins with a long finish. Hints of mint, vanilla, and plum make this a nice wine, however the abundance of oak made it less than perfect.

Creosote aromas with rich flavors of licorice, tar, blackberries and menthol and fine integrated tannins. At this early stage, one might confuse this for an over-extracted fruit bomb, but the tannins, depth and length of this wine are indications of a wine for the cellar that will evolve in time. Best from 2019-2040

What is it about wine tasting better when someone else buys it for the table? We'll discuss that another time. The 2013 Caymus needs to just chill for another 8-10 years then we can bring out into the light of day to play. That being said, however, this wine is still quite delicious and is sure to have everyone at the table pleased.

Rich and sumptuous but really lacking in structure. This is unfortunately similar to the '12 fruit bomb. This doesn't feel serious; almost like grape juice that's been left out on the counter for a few days. Am not sure what Parker is seeing here. There's just no structure at all. I love some previous Caymus vintages, most recently the '11, but this vintage comes across as silly. This, along with the '12 is the only wine I could describe as stupid. I had four more liter bottles on order but managed to cancel the order of this silly wine.

This is a silly, mass produced, syrupy, overly extracted, overly sweet wine packaged and sold at grocery stores for someone looking to impress with no knowledge of wine. " Hey lookey me, I brought a $100 (really $60 but $100 has more panache) of Naps Craps!"
A friend brought this over in a 1L bottle. Decanted for a few hours beforehand. I haven't had Caymus in a long time so I was rather excited to try. WHOOPS!! Shouldn't have been. This was absolutely terrible. From the jump, this was not a wine that I was jiving with. Over-extracted nose with a soy sauce component to it. Big and jammy on the palate with very little on the finish to back it all up. I had 1 1/2 glasses out of respect to my friend (who is not really a wine drinker but was excited to share with me) and then had to move on to something else. Came on CT and saw that I'm not the only one to react this way.
If you enjoy, more power to you, but this is not for me...

My first Caymus. Just too too much fruit, almost too sweet. Tasted prior to a 2 hour decant, and was smooth and way too fruit forward for me. After the 2 hour decant, was pretty much still the same, lacking in complexity, but still enjoyable. The wife and daughter-in-law just loved it, so I guess I''l be buying more, but I thought it was just too over the top. Had it next to a 2012 Seghesio Home Ranch, which I and my son thought was outstanding. Would be good for just drinking without food, but at the price point is pretty expensive.

Wow. As the Wall Street Journal reviewer used to say, delicious! I opened a bottle now based on all the positive reviews on CT. Young and fruity on opening, it has tightened up a bit as it has had time to breath. Vanilla coming through with time. A classic California cab, sure to improve with age.

Not sure what to make of this wine. A bit too sweet for my palate, but as the wine opened, the deeper complexities began to emerge. Probably needs a good 2 hour decant, but even them, the sweetness may still be present. But the structure is there and over time I expect to develop nicely. And as we neared the end of the bottle, my palate became quite content with the bit of sweetness.

Slightly better than the 2012 Caymus Napa, but unfortunately, completely fruit driven and one dimensional without much in the way of complexity. At this juncture, it just seems to be an overpriced fruit bomb, but it may improve with time.

A core of cassis and mocha, with elderberry, smoke, graphite and melted fudge. The middle palate is very endowed, with layer upon layer of silken tannins. Cocked and loaded with fruit, yet very distinguished and refined, with such a gorgeously long finish. There's a toasted patina that struts during every phase. Drink now - 2025.
Purchased at a client dinner. I don't normally drink the "purple drank" but we were with a group that likes fruity bold wines. Two words came to mind upon tasting this wine: syrup and vanilla. The oak in this wine was insane and not anywhere near integrated. The fruit was a goopy mess, sweet and cloying. Even the folks we were with who like these kinds of wine didn't like this. Granted, it was drank young, but I don't think this wine has the structure to go anywhere. FAIR.

From a 1L bottle; dark purple in appearance. Has a nose of sweet, woody blackberries and cherries with some hints of purple Belgian candy sugar. Sweet woody vanilla along with some coconuts and black cherries on the palate along with some cassis trailing off. A plush wine that is enjoyable to drink young and will delight many though I will not be grabbing another one for a while. Light-medium body with a medium+ finish.

Not quite as over the top as the 2012, but has a touch of a sour cherry component that is less Caymus-like than other vintages. I assume this will improve over the next 2-3 years.

Red cherries dominate the palate. This is a "big" wine and not for those who dislike this style. It is on the simple side, but a reasonable sample of this style.

Dark purple. Nose was closed at first but as it opened up I got dark fruit, tobacco, fig, and slight menthol. Palate was lacking. Blackberry, black pepper, and disappointment. As I continue my school of hard knocks into wine, I'm learning that price and name don't guarantee anything (Caymus and Orin Swift...I'm looking at you.) Will hold total judgment until I try the 2012 Special Selection and a few more from Dave, but so far WTF.

This is a very fruity, red berry, jammy wine. It is smooth, a bit sweet and silky. It's bold, but not the big cab bold. However, it definitely dominates that palate. A good wine, but you have to like this style.

Better than the 2012, but that's not saying much. A well made(if scientifically so) wine that is made for hedonistic drinking now. Couldn't drink with food as it would overwhelm anything. Thick globby purple in glass, big fruit forward, jammy, sweet tannins and sweet overdone oak. Not as syrupy and vanilla-y as the 2012 but definitely overdone. Assuming this is the style they were going for.

Normally I love older vintages of Caymus, but this one was just all chocolate and tasted highly manipulated. Fairly tannic as well. Even thought I thought the 2012 was better than people were panning it, now I can see the complaints with the 2013....

Sweet vanilla, lots of oak, but less than '12, to me stills tastes fairly manipulated, somewhat artificial. I see why this is attractive to some, but not my thing. I liked their older style from the 80's and 90's much better.

Decanted a little over an hour. Classic rich inky purple Caymus body coats the glass. Ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry and black cherry with sweet overtones of vanilla and creme de cassis. Supple tannins and a little oak to hold it together. I enjoyed it a little more than the 2012 but haven't tried them side by side. For the price this is some great juice even if it is too fruit bombish for some people.
ETA: Adding 1 point, after the third bottle of this I think its pretty damn good stuff with a decant and I defy you to find a better cali cab for $65.

A rich, sweet fruit bomb… but I like it in its particular space. If you bring it to a party, it is a crowd pleaser to be certain. A Cab that is better enjoyed on its own than with a meal, in my opinion. I can hardly wait to see the score R.P. attributes to this 2013 vintage (in view of what he scored the 2012). In my opinion, this is a better wine. 91.6 Points.

Decanted 1/2 hr, huge nose of bluberry, currants, pomegranit and vanilla, the palate is a huge ripe, rich, extracted, fruit bomb. Like sucking on ripe sour currants, maybe a black cherry or any number of other dark sour fruits, did I mention ripe, extracted and incredibly rich. Oh yea this is a Wagner wine and I like it!

I'm rating this wine for what it is, rather than for what I prefer in a Napa cabernet. It is a soft, sweet, exceedingly rich fruit bomb, with just enough tannin and acid to eke out a mild finish and avoid outright flabbiness. (Note if the richness dries out a bit with time, the wine might achieve a nicer balance). Highly extracted, gorgeous deep black/purple to the rim. Nose is sweet red fruits, and a whiff of pure alcohol. The front page story for this wine though is the intensely concentrated ripe sweet fruit density completely across the palate, which overwhelms the rest. "It is what it is." Not my preferred cup of tea, but a tour de force for a jammy sweet but pure (not stewed) fruit bomb of a wine. Unlike others, I hope this evolves into a more balanced, even excellent wine. All the parts are there, but for now the sweet fruit overwhelms the rest.

Still a fruit bomb (but that's what we like about Caymus!) but they seem to have dialed back the cloying bubble gum of the 2012. A good bottle of wine.

Decanted for 2 hours. Fruit bomb to be sure. Very fruity with a touch of vanilla. Smooth, rich, tasty and very approachable even this young. Plush, crowd pleasing cab. Bordering on too much. Too much fruit, too much vanilla. Hopefully it settles down with age.

As other reviews have agreed, this is a great big, fruity, jammy bomb of a wine. Hard to imagine how/how much it will improve with age, as it seems engineered to taste great right now... Which indeed it does, if you like this kind of thing (which I do). Very satisfying wine to open and enjoy right away on its own... Hard to imagine what food would stand up to it... Puttanesca? BTW, Ralph's has it for $59.49 in their mix & match 6-packs.

The last three vintages of this wine have become pop n' pour steakhouse restaurant wines. It appears to me that is where this wine's future is...we all need a no decant wine every now and then I guess. The price should be $50 not $70.

My first Caymus in a while and not much has changed year over year with this wine. Highly manufactured and made for consistency as opposed to vineyard and vintage representation. Stylized to show gobs of ripe black fruit, jam, blueberry pie and any other sweet fruit you can think of, the finish shows some earth and sweet tobacco, but little to no acid or structure. The viscosity makes this wine difficult to drink more than two glasses and how one can enjoy this with a heavy meal is incomprehensible. The wine is science driven and shows no true innate Cabernet or bench land characteristics.

First taste of 2013; a trial bottle. Much better than 2012. Short decant. Dark color. Not overly complex but nice just the same. Fruity with emphasis on dark fruit flavors. Mild oak w/ vanilla. Thick. Fairly smooth with some tannic grip but it's still easy to drink.

I'm a huge Caymus fan - may be my favorite winery - and I thought this was excellent. It's big its bold it's dark and jammy. Everyone keeps saying this will get better with age, which may well be, but Caymus can always be drunk young, and I find it to be excellent now. Certainly one of the better vintages in recent (5+?) years. Much more finesse than the twelve, though I also enjoyed that. Had this a couple of weeks after a bottle of the highly acclaimed 2009 SS; I think I'd prefer two bottles of this instead.

Disappointing. Nose was muted. First taste was imitation vanilla extract (just like in your kitchen cabinet). Then came some confusing fusion of stewed cherry and oak. 2012 was super over the top fake. This is just fake! Slightly more tannins than 2012. Could these be damaged somehow? Maybe from shipping un-temperature controlled from the west to the east coast (where I purchased) in the July? Don’t see how the wine could not be impacted in some way from this heat.

Tasted at virtual tasting at Total Wine in Towson, MD on Saturday, July 11, 2015. One of three great vintages(2012, 2013 & 2014). Lovely signature wine produced by Wagner Family. Deep color and great depth. 14.9% alcohol. Big wine.

Nose is classic Caymus with mocha, boysenberry pie and a hint of blueberry and of course, vanilla. Mid palate is medium weight then the onslaught of flavor that repeats the notes from the nose. As others noted, slightly leaner, more tamed than the ridiculous 2012, so it's a bit more balanced. Overall, nice, but nowhere near as great as the 07 or 09. For long term Caymus fans, you won't be disappointed.

Definitely early for this wine, but needed to be sure it wasn't like the incredibly disappointing 2012. Fortunately, it is not the syrup like mess of that vintage. It is still big and jammy, without the structure or tannins to compete with the big boys in the class. Certainly not a wine to pair with food, but enjoyable enough on its own. Still, for $70, there are much better wines out there.

Drank to the last drop tonight, enjoying it all, but agree it’s a fruit forward bordering on a fruit bomb. It doesn’t seem to have the structure or complexity that some of the higher end or traditional Napas and French and Italian reds have, and doesn't seem to pair with anything on the menu as it is so fruit forward it overpowers anything you would pair with it. Still, by all means, a top notch wine, but at 75.00-100.00, I could very well find something more acidic and with more personality for the price, I believe. The Honig 2012 was actually a better wine with a steak, and offered a nice structure that the 2013 Caymus lacks, and for half the price. This Caymus is good pretty much by itself as an appetizer or dessert wine. The waiter called it very amarillo-ish, syrupy basically, when we poured him some, and I can’t disagree. But he said he loved it nonetheless; beautiful. There are few if any tannins, and little room or need for any talk of evolving, as these recent Caymus vintages seem all so scientifically created to drink for the now, that I do not believe any cellaring will make a difference in taste on this vintage. Still, it might be interesting to hold a few bottles just for the hope of proving me wrong. The 2010-11 seemed more structured, and less fruit forward, but I would have to taste again to see, as it was nearly two years ago or more that I last tried and was impressed by the Caymus. In short, if you like fruit and hard currents, or tsunamis of blackberry and cherry, then the 2013 Caymus will not disappoint. If you are not big on food for the night, and just want to have a nice fulfilling wine, then this would be a great wine because it has a strong overpowering taste and in itself could be considered an appetizer or dessert. True, a smooth finish and attractive aroma, with hints of chocolate and that cheerful x-factor that will put you in a good mood either way. It's fun to anticipate a Caymus, and always will be, but simply, this is a scientifically created wine that is a drink now one in which there is little need for cellaring in hopes of evolving. 91-92 first quarter bottle, downhill and fruity-redundant from there.
I think this Caymus is a big step up from 2012. While it still has abundant fruit and spice, it is much more restrained with better acidity and structure. This is a big wine (takes time to open up) but has class and is not over the top or sweet or gloppy like some recent Caymus.

The 2013 is by far, better that the 2012 in my opinion. There is significant elements and nuances to this vintage that are showing and that will show to a greater degree with some bottle age (see previous post). Sweet, but nowhere near over the top and syrupy sweet as the 2012. I will buy more of this vintage. It will be very interesting to see what the professional rating will be on the 2013. 90.7 Points for now!

Black and blueberry floral nose. Vibrant concentrated blackberry and cherry fruit smoothly coats the palette, finishing with chocolate, velvety cassis, hints of vanilla and oak. I like it more than the over-extracted sweet 2012 40th Anniversary.

I couldn't wait to give this one shot, especially with the rave behind the 2012 vintage which was not my favorite Caymus. Would it be too early to drink this wine? Could bottle shock be an issue and effect this wine negatively if consumed too early? Happily, answer was no. I found it interesting that he 2013 Caymus was sourced from 8 of the 16 Napa Valley sub-appellations, with approximately 75% valley floor fruit and 25% elevated mountain sites. I like this 2013 vintage over the 2012 as the 2013 is more defined with charter and depth in it's youth. Despite the high alcohol content (14.9) in this vintage, it's not as sweet as the 2012 (14.6) was to me. The 2012 is was way over the top (on steroids), whereas the 2013 is drinking very nicely. The color is a beautiful, seductive dark purple-ruby and the taste is big on the palate with attractive aromas. My first impressions are positive, big fruit, rich extraction, dark cherries, berries, and milk chocolate and nicely integrated tannins. I'll call it 91+ points for now, pleasing, and possibly a better score down the road.

Decanted off moderate sediment, this is all about its jammy fruit and oak, not complex or structured.
My last note:
5/21/2016 rated 90 points: PHMG WAG: 2013 Napa Reds (Lyon Valley): Winner of the "Most Controversial WOTN" award.

With plenty of air pleasant notes of dark fruit, creme de cassis, wintergreen, mocha, and vanilla come forward, but this needs more time to come together. Excellent now if you like New World, hussy fruit and voluptuousness, but hold if you like more balance in your Cabs.

Drink up.

People complained about this being a fruit bomb - but I didn't find that. I found a wine that was a bit of a mess - too hot, to tight, too tannic. I can't say anything was well done with this wine.
Bottom line - not delicious.

If you consider Rombauer Chardonnay 'Cougar Crack' then this is its counterpart. Would be quite good if bottled in a 375ml and sold as a dessert wine and embraced that expectation, but alas, it is trying to game the higher end Cab market. It's wines like these that gives ammunition to France to laugh at Napa's efforts. If you like flabby skittle notes and a long lingering finish of stewed raisins, this wine is for you.

Ugh.

FAIR.

Sweet woody vanilla along with some coconuts and black cherries on the palate along with some cassis trailing off. A plush wine that is enjoyable to drink young and will delight many though I will not be grabbing another one for a while. Light-medium body with a medium+ finish.

As I continue my school of hard knocks into wine, I'm learning that price and name don't guarantee anything (Caymus and Orin Swift...I'm looking at you.) Will hold total judgment until I try the 2012 Special Selection and a few more from Dave, but so far WTF.

A Cab that is better enjoyed on its own than with a meal, in my opinion. I can hardly wait to see the score R.P. attributes to this 2013 vintage (in view of what he scored the 2012). In my opinion, this is a better wine. 91.6 Points.

It doesn’t seem to have the structure or complexity that some of the higher end or traditional Napas and French and Italian reds have, and
doesn't seem to pair with anything on the menu as it is so fruit forward it
overpowers anything you would pair with it.
