One-hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Bold boysenberry fruit aromas emanated during decant. There was some sediment. After resting, wine was clear; dark red bowl with some lightening to rim and a large halo. Nose had softened to dark cherries, plum, leather, and cedar. Tannins and acid make this a nice food wine. Silky smooth; deep fruit. Long finish with a touch of dust. In a wonderful place.

Red cherry, black cherry, and plum fruit. Mostly have given way to the tertiary notes of red licorice, stewed tomatoes, cigar box, leather, and cedar. Dusty acidity and soft tannins with a nice long finish. Actually in a very good spot right now after 20 years. I still think some of their 90's vintages are drinking a little better but this is really good.

We might have waited a bit too long on this one. While we decantd it too, overall we got lots of BV dust but not much fruit. Tannins were quite mild. Maybe with a bit more time it might have opened up more than it did for us over the hour in the decanter.

This bottle was not up to par. It had a touch of old-wine flavor which distracted from the lovely fruit and oak of the wine. A dark red brick edge wine with aromas of dark fruit, minerals, some cedar and cigar box. It is a delicious, complex mouthful of ripe fruit, some cedar, fine tannins and a long finish. This turned out to be a wonderful wine with a special birthday meal of prime rib that we had at home. If you are fortunate to have some in your cellar, enjoy it over the next few years. It's ready to enjoy.

Cork on this one also crumbled. Part of it was the waiter had no idea how to open older wines and I suggested an ah so. We tend to bring our own wine to dinner just because our cellars are better than the lists but this was just past its prime. Red hots on the nose with cinnamon and bright red fruit intertwined. Tannins were non existent and while there was some fruit up front there was not much on the back end. Just goes to show again that these should be consumed younger (at least in my opinion). I had an 07 BV GDLT and it was very nice. Finish was almost non existent on this one though.

Video Music Night at Bill's (Vancouver, BC): Really nice nose with darker fruits and hints of subtle wood. Less concentrated than the '03 but obviously showing more weight and upfront fruit than any of the previous wines. Approachable and just entering its early drinking window. Should improve and develop more complexity/secondary aromas with another 5-10 years. Very good. 89+

At Gary's Grand Tasting. Did a vertical of BV Georges de Latour. This one from a magnum - opened for about 2 hours.
Great color, inky/red. Nose was intense black fruits, cassis. No signsof againg, drinking very young.
Sweeter character to this wine, some floral/violet notes along with the big fruit. Cedar, herb, spices and herbs accent a big fruit forward profile. Drinking well now, has at least a decade in front of it. Excellent.

4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (Our house): Opaque inky crimson color. Aromas of incense, blackberry, cassis, minerals, violets and kirsch. Full-bodied with firm yet approachable fine-grained tannins that have a sweet edge. Very well-balanced with flavors of dark fruit, violets and mineral. Cedar and herb notes emerge with time in the glass, as well as more florals. Black fruit and floral notes on the palate, lingering on the long, balanced finish. Guessed CA Cab. 95+ pts.

Had two bottles with our Christmas dinner and everyone enjoyed them immensely. The 2002 is drinking very nicely and should live well for quite a few more years. Heavy plum purple color and nose of red and black berries along with some oak. Taste has layers of sweet dark cherries, raspberries, and plum along with a touch of chocolate and vanilla and oak. The finish is lingering fruit with nice oak and wonderful smooth tannin. Both bottles were almost identical.

Solid not spectacular. Peppery with just enough fruit, but a bit thinner than other vintages I've had. Didn't get the sense it was going to get better with more age-but it was very pleasant with a meal.

I had a bottle of the 02 BV GDL earlier this year and although it was good, it did not overwhelm me. Well, I took this bottle to Fleming's Steak house in Palo Alto and it was fantastic. It is important to note that I have been giving my palate a break so maybe that had something to do with it. Classic Rutherford Dust.

Fine garnet color. Aromatic. Fine Cabernet nose showing it's American oak cooperage. Palate is all dusty Rutherford fruit. Unmistakable. Not the best Georges I have had, but brings back memories. 5-12-16-7: 90/100

I drink a lot of BV GDL, Tapestry and Rutherford wines, and I am starting to come to the conclusion that for vintagesfrom 1999 to to 20 06, these wines should all be consumed within 5 to 8 years from the vintage date. The 2002 tasted great. There was good fruit with cigar and leather tones. Classic BV GDL. I do think though that the wine is thinning out. I had a number of bottles from this vintage in 09 and 10 and I thought they tasted better. I don't know what it is but the BV wines from 1999 to 2005 seem to thin out after 8 years. I had a number of bottles of BV GDL from the 93 and 96 vintages back in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and I thought they tasted great. I recently had the 2004 BV GDL and thought it was fantastic. When I had the 02 BV GDL in 2009 and 2010 it blew me away. I have six bottles left of the 2002 BV GDL and maybe I should put them away or open them up and decant the wine before drinking.

First night, oak was too prevalent. Lots of vanilla and cassis on the nose. Palate showed tons of ripe fruit. Moderate to heavy tannins. Second night the wine was more interesting. Less obvious oak on the nose and the palate was far more balanced. Maybe even a tobacco note. Odd that this particular wine was so ripe. For this style, I much prefer Pride Reserve Cab.

Opened after the 2003 was discovered to be flawed. The 2002 showed composure, elegance. the bright yet expansive red fruit and light vanilla and chocolate notes gathered as the bottle decanted throughout the night. specifically, cherry, under ripe raspberry, orange peel, sweet kona coffee, maple, cedar, even honey. Not sure if there is much room for improvement with more age, but the bottle was definitely enjoyed on this particular evening. would not hesitate to pop another anytime soon...
paired very nicely with peppercorn filet. would highly recommend revisiting at the value price purchased ~$50...

This was fantastic. Quick 1/2 hour decant. Not a big nose, but lush and balanced on the palate. Long smooth finish. This is drinking very nicely right now, would have scored higher if the nose was a little more there...but who knows, we drank it so quick it may have opened up more if we were more patient. Will try to find more.

I thought the wine had a great nose from the beginning, but really opened up after 1-2 hours in the decanter. It had a nice dark, rich color. Taste of dark currants and smoke. Became richer as the night went on. Picked it up for $47 - cannot complain, wish I had picked up more than 2 bottles.

I disappointing Latour...not a bad wine. This would have been a great $20 wine. But at $100...and with that name/heritage on the bottle....it is just depressing that this wine has fallen so far. Nice enough Cab, but not as good as the last time I tasted it. This seemed tighter and more austere with a slight canned note. Missing the rich lush fruit that you get in the better 02 Napa cabs. Maybe closing down a bit and may re-emerge with time.

BV Georges de Latour Vertical (Zoe): Way backward and slightly shut down, it's tough to make heads or tails of this wine. Pretty much just oak and earth at this stage, I would expect some of the juicy 2002 fruit is hiding somewhere in there (although I didn't see it). I'm not sure what to make of this one.

Drank this to see how many i wanted to cellar. It is better than the 2001, tight and closed now, but with time in the bottle, mint, cedar, blackberry, and cassis come through nicely. A good example of the Georges we have come to know and love.

BV Tasting with Ron Mueller of A.D. (Orso's): Huge, rich, dense Napa Cab. Textbook creme de cassis, cedar, vanilla, and oak nose as well as palate. Has some complexity with tobacco and mocha intertwined with the bold black fruits. Huge dusty tannins towards mid palate and finish with great intensity and nice acidity. Cellar for at least 3 more years. I think this one has something to offer in the future. 92+ BTW, Laube can go F himself.

This vintage never disappoints. I tasted some vanilla on the finish. I actually think the 02 BV GDL is holding up quite well and has another 5+ years before it declines. I have 3 bottles left and I am going to put them away for a few more years, even though the wine tastes great now. VinoServant Mobile http://m.vinoservant.com --

Very simple in nose and palate...I think this wine is a good drinker. Had a little Rutherford Dust...but nothing amazing. Drink now as this wine has no upside.
