While its 2002 perigee will limit the amount of charm it can show, this was a very nice wine. It showed dark fruit and charcoal undertones and exhibited good balance. It did prove a little rough around the edges and it lacked any significant heft in the mid-palate. I do not think any additional age will soften it, although it is certainly not going anywhere bad. Overall, a very nice weeknight dinner wine, but it substantially trails the 2001 in overall quality.

A gorgeous wine. Slight tomato on the nose, with herb and tobacco notes. Sumptuous in the mouth, filling but not heavy. Clean finish with a touch of grip left. A great Clos l'Eglise and it will get better.

A good bottle of wine. Thick and chewy with distinct mocha notes. Looking back at the price, I'm not sure that it was worth it.
