  • Maybe I had a tricky bottle, but I found this Cab Frank to be too acidic, too hot for it's weight.

  • On the nose, sweet fruit with shrubby undertones at first, and a sometimes bloody character later on. Lightweight, with fruit supporting more stony and slightly vegetal flavors. Acid attack isn't immediate, and chewy fruit tannins developed with time. Nice wine, but not quite as compelling as others I've had from this area at this price point (which admittedly hasn't been that many).

  • A friend of mine is making his own Cab Franc from some Carneros (southern Napa area) from the 09 vintage and while it rests in barrel, we wanted to compare it to an unoaked Loire Cab Franc, which is where this wine comes into play. This wine never saw any wood so the pure essence of the Cab Franc fruit is what you get and it's quite tasty as the blackberry notes mix with some earthy elements framed by mild tannins. For $20, this is a nice little wine.
