The first bottle was dull and disappointing, but this one was very good. Very nice acidic structure, cedar, dried herbs, dark tight fruit, fine woody tannins. Classic Loire Cab Franc. Scratches my wine geek itch.

I'll agree with the two others that this is not a stellar effort (but I didn't find much of the bell pepper) and it's lacking something "in the middle", but I don't find it a real disappointment either. It was fine and works, as these breed usually does, well with food. That said, it had pretty poor QPR; I think it belongs in the low-mid teens rather than pushing towards $20.

Inaugural Wine Lair tasting with DGH and EH (SF Wine Center): Bottle 62942025, 1st Coravin. Clear, bright, medium ruby in the glass with a ruby meniscus. On the nose, crass grape tones, floral, with fresh-cut yellow bell pepper (bell pepper marmalade?), and a hint of earth on the back end. In the mouth, med- body, med- alcohol, med acid. medium+ gritty tannins. Some indistinct black raspberry and bell peppers on the midpalate, but pretty flat - flabby, bitter, tannic, and lacks acidity. The balance is off, the fruit is barely there, and what is there isn’t that compelling or pleasant. We all agreed, it’s hard to imagine the ’09 could ever become something like the ’96 - I wonder what changed at the winery?
Score: Around 7.5

A birthday dinner (Restaurant Bord'eau **, Amsterdam, NL): Wonderful ripe fruit, lifted by a distinct note of the stalks, fresh and ripe, hint of cocoa, good length.

Nothing special. Some decent graphite and pencil shavings with blueberries but body and finish are lacking.
