  • Sometimes curiosity gets the better of me. I like trying older wines from unheralded producers and/or vintages or ones that are simply long past their expected consumption window. Occasionally I just get lucky and discover a rare gem from a bottle that has absolutely no business whatsoever still delivering pleasure. This was one such bottle and, while it didn't set the world on fire, it was still hanging on for dear life and provided a fascinating nose and mouthful of tertiary notes, albeit with a slight sour/metallic finish. This 100% Cabernet poured cloudy despite standing upright for 2 days and the nose took on a more pruney tone after a few hours. Fun.

  • Believe this was stored improperly because I drank it with friends who have had this wine before. Smelled like pure pickling juice.

  • Not a correct bottle, with undrinkably high levels of VA.

  • Crazy wine, and probably the most welcome departure from the Syrah-Fest of January '19. I was expecting a wine with a tiny bit of fruit but mostly notes reminiscent of a cigarette being put out in it. Whoah Mama! If blindfolded, there is no way I would have guessed that this was 100% cabernet from Spain, and 40 year old cabernet from Spain at that! Still had a lot of Blackberry on the front, but also hints of black tea, rhubarb. Leather and tobacco in the middle into the Finish. But this one finishes with a lot of black youthful fruit that is reminiscent of a wine that may have 10 years of age on it. Completely and totally awed.

  • Basically minimal expectations for this cellar one-off were met with a nicely mature, or slightly past mature wine. No formal notes, but the color is still good, with only a little bricking, and the balance of fruit and acid is nice. Tannins were mostly gone, but enough remained to make this a pleasing wine. Though it ought to be drunk relatively soon.
