This is one very ripe wine, very showy and flashy with gobs of rich black fruit. Nearly sweet but mostly savory with good depth and enough structure in the near background to remain fresh and balanced (enough). Drink up.

Liking mid-range CdeP more than similarly priced cabs these days as they're more drinkable without food (i.e.,less tannic) with more complexity. That said, nice mid-week wine, but nothing special.

Hot and dusty upon opening. Ripe, plummy fruit is fading but not yet gone. Smoke, wood, and savory herbs are beginning to dominate. More appealing accompanying rich food (cassoulet). Day 2: fruit more evident along with notes of black licorice and cigar box.

Rich dark brick red color. Some signs of age. Nose filled with dark black fruit. Blackberry and cassis. Notes of chocolate, pepper and herbs. On the palate spicy black fruit with drying tannin and good acidity, especially considering the hot vintage. Still quite structured but it’s integrated and is drinking nicely. Spice filled tart blackberry with a slightly drying finish. In a good place right now.

Drank with Johnny as late evening cocktail in Bayfield. First night was outright excellent; good flavors, balance and complexity. Second night a little bitter or tannic finish cut my score, but overall nice drinking and different (in an interesting way) from your day to day bordeaux blend.

Dark ruby, med+ opacity. Complex & intense combination of aromas; licorice, raspberry, red soil, leather, cashews, dried figs. Full bodied, expansive on the palate. Rustic feel with lots of tannins still, though very well balanced. All the flavors emerge plus some spices & black pepper. Long finish. High alcohol.

Nose was tight as nails on first pour, got more expressive with some air. Thinking that this is in its peak drinking window and should likely hold for a bit but I wouldn't sit on them forever.

Perfect cork. Light sediment. Touch of amber bricking, medium ruby color. 45-min decant. Pleasant strawberry sweetness on the attack. Body is typical CdP, slightly spicy red fruits with minerals. Finish veered into a touch of bitterness, but this faded with more air. Probably has peaked but I’m guessing this has 2-3 years left.

DAMN WiNOS (Rye Restaurant, Eugene): Just like my last bottle over 2 years ago this "overperfomed". Group WOTN, it's very complex with layers of savory flavors (garrigue, meat, anise, damp earth, and iodine) hovering over the liqueur like fruit and velvety texture. On plateau, now-2022.

Elegant nose and good weight and flavors, but a bit restraint and and good amount of tannins. I’m hoping a few more years of aging might actually make it even more interesting.

Unfortunately drank most of this before it had a chance to properly breathe. On opening it was dense but the fruit came across as a bit tired and flat. It was better with some time, the flavors filled in with depth and complexity. Suggest a 60 minute decant at this stage. Good pairing with rack of lamb.

Another very nice 2007 CdP for Friday night dinner at Beth El. Dark ruby in color with a fragrant spice box herbal nose. In the mouth I get raspberries, some black fruit, the typical CdP garrigue along with some lavender. Good finish. Went well with my chicken.

PHMG WAG: the '07 Chateauneufs (Old Home of the Lyon): This wine surprised in a non-blind way, the velvety texture of this bottle was a standout feature. Liqueur after liqueur poured out of the glass with some tar, earth and herbs thrown in. Now-2019.

I did not decant - just pop and poured. Not quite as good as the last time I had this wine. A little thin and shrill for the alcohol (14.5%), flavours are interesting and it is clearly a well made wine; perhaps in a dumb stage if not "drink it now". I will have the other half of the bottle tomorrow night. We will see what 24 hours of air does to the wine.

89-90 pts

Smooth but lacked fruit and nuances that other reviewers have described, some minerals and tobacco. Short on tannins, a bit ho-hum, I think this one should be dranked now or perhaps it needed more air time. Good drink with turkey nonetheless.

Dark purple in color with earth and plum on the nose. Earth and minerals on the palate and devoid of fruit. No tannin to speak of, and maybe an off bottle as other CT notes are much higher.

Picking up some elements other tasters noticed - prominent bramble and red currant notes. Structure and tannins present but the wine is full enough to compensate. A food wine that doesn't drink heavy. We had it with homemade pizza to begin and dark chocolate to end, and both worked. Tannins meshed well in particular with the chocolate. Deep red coloring, fresh berry, tobacco, bit of spice on the nose. Palate has nice grip. I think this can do well over the next decade.

Spicy fig, black peppar, hoisin, currant and a little heat on the nose. Those same flavors come through on the palate with added mocha, chalk and mineral flavors framed by still overbearing tannins. Needs a few hour decant to open up at this stage. Wonderfully complex wine that will continue to develop for the next ten years.

Excellent wine, in a great drinking window. Savoury and herbaceous with hints of licorice/anise and enough fruit to balance things out. Nice finish. Nice pairing with lamb shoulder. Seems to be no reason to wait on this one in my opinion, especially if you can give it a 30+ minute decant.

Nice quality chateauneuf here but I'm not sure aging has helped much to this point. Fruit has mellowed a bit but this is still a deep dark wine. Not flabby, raisinesque or falling apart as some 07 have been called out on. This has big structure and tannin it's just a question of if it will really improve, probably will have to give it another 10 years to find out though.

Four years on since my first bottle and I'm still not very impressed, in fact this lost a few points since then. Lots of chewy, tannic, dark, and slightly bitter fruit with a bit of raisin on the tail end. This combined with the quite heady alcohol and its gets a big "meh" from me. No elegance or finesse was found in these two bottles, just bruising fruit and alcohol. I'm not sure time will do anything to help this.

I hand wrote tasting notes and a score on this wine and then checked Cellartracker…I think I'll do that from now on since it's interesting to compare without having looked up previous notes first, particularly when not much time has passed since the previous tasting. Color: Very dark garnet. Nose: Red currant, black cherry, oak. Taste: Big, long wave of red currant, cherry cola, raspberry with a savory meatiness. Really nice momentum and long finish. Wonderfully silky texture and lightly gripping tannins add to the charisma of this wine. I wouldn't wait!

Leather, tea, blackcurrant on the nose. Quite a bit of sediment. Medium bodied. Taste: Cassis, cranberry, raspberry, charcuterie. Nice complexity and charisma, good typicity, very well balanced. Tannis are soft-- see no reason to wait. For thirty-ish bucks a great value.

Good, but not great. Still very tannic, suggesting it still has some mileage left in it. I couldn't get much Syrah on the nose or the palate. Faint peppery taste but it was dominated by a distinct over ripeness.

This was impressive - young and vibrant - very dark for a CndP, dark plum and cherry robe with a dark cherry rim - looks more like a syrah. Deep intense nose, blackberry, raspberry, cherry fruit, notes of tar, minerals. Full bodied but fresh on the palate, deep tasty tarry fruit, sort of sticks to the tongue with softly gritty tannins and bright acidity. For a rich vintage, this is welll balanced and very tasty with food.
Had with a pretty ideal match of oven roasted rack of lamb with provencal herbs and roasted vegetables. Excellent match.

Opened bottle at 4:30pm. Light, some acidity with dark fruit. Served at 7:00pm and wine had not changed much. At 7:40pm, wine seemed like it might be falling apart, but my wife didn't think so. The nose seemed to be losing it's initial punch. Fruit on the palette is drifting away, but the acid remains. Doubt I would buy another bottle, but the price was good for a CDP.

Bluer than velvet was the night. Softer than satin... Darkness in the glass, nose of black and blue fruits, pure smoothness on the palate. This was your archetypical 2007 CDP, big, plush and smooth (and ripe, but not overripe in any way). Tannins were there, but somewhere between corduroy and satin in character, and totally unobtrusive. The only thing that was a bit jarring was the alcohol level - noticeably higher than the 14% on the label.

One of the better CdP for the vintage, avoiding the overripe syrup that so many of the big names and luxury cuvees exhibit. This shows off reserved, dark, brooding plum, garrique, bit of spice, decent acidity and fine tannins for balance. Better with several hours of air, or even the next day, very nice.

Wednesday Night Tasting (Pascal Marchand, Domaine de Chevalier, Chateauneuf) (Dave's House): Popped and poured. Nose of dark fruits, plums, black olives, bandaid, spice and rubber. Quite a bit of heat burning my nostrils, despite a label alcohol of 14.5%. On the palate, I note dark fruits, raisin, ash and olive. Decent tannic structure, likely due to the 15% Syrah and 15% Mouvedre, but lacking slightly in acidity. Some heat is noted on the finish as well. Overall, the rubber on the nose and raisin on the palate are quite off putting. As with the Pascal Marchand Corton, we elected not to drink the remainder of this.

Brick/ruby color. Decanted for 2 hours. Starts with primary Chambord characteristics supported by fresh 3-year old baby arse (pre-poop), asparagus, tobacco, brambles, smoke and iodine. This certainly lives up to the hype of the vintage - rich, but incredibly fresh and clean. Complex nose of raspberries, black olives and menthol. Medium bodied with suave texture and no trace of heat from the 14.5% alc. Starts of with rich red fruits, but then mid-palate it kicks into higher gear with very refreshing almost spearmint like freshness. Herbal and smoky on the finish. Very good complexity and nice length. I let it breathe in the bottle for 2 hours and thought it was at its best for the first couple of hours. Still nice on the next day, but with a little less energy... While this should last a while, there is no reason not to drink it now as it is very tasty. 92-93.

A Garagiste purchase, took a flier on this 07 CdP, though I have found many/most overripe. This one is quite nice, dark garnet in color, medium body with a sense of elegance, flavors are earthy dark raspberry, with some nice woodsy character, good structure, not showing any sign of the overly ripe vintage. Quite nice and very classic.

Impressive and a good value. This really built up into a spicy, complex smelling wine that kept me swirling, sniffing and sipping. At least on the bouquet, I thought the Syrah really stood out (or that the Grenache tended a bit to the darker, spicier side this vintage). Hard to resist now.

Lots of bite the first few hours. Once things calmed down a bit it was an okay wine. Lots of tannins, acid and fruit, but I didn't think it came together very well.

Heavier style and black fruits which would make me think it has more syrah although Im not sure of the blend here. Really nice nose, only a hint of old world here as this wine is pretty clean and pure. Good structure and fine tannin which extends the length. Lacks a bit of punch in the mid palate. I nice wine, but not a blockbuster. I think this one should improve over the short term though.

90-91+ pts

Dark ruby, med+ opacity. Complex & intense combination of aromas; licorice, raspberry, red soil, leather, cashews, dried figs. Full bodied, expansive on the palate. Rustic feel with lots of tannins still, though very well balanced. All the flavors emerge plus some spices & black pepper. Long finish. High alcohol.

No elegance or finesse was found in these two bottles, just bruising fruit and alcohol. I'm not sure time will do anything to help this.

Very good complexity and nice length. I let it breathe in the bottle for 2 hours and thought it was at its best for the first couple of hours. Lots of bite the first few hours. Once things calmed down a bit it was an okay wine. Lots of tannins, acid and fruit, but I didn't think it came together very well. It didn't really open up, and I think it needs more time. Will give it another chance in a couple years, but I'm not particularly anxious about it!

91+ pts

Very soft. More fruit-forward than many CDPs. A dark and spicy nose. Some more minerally flavors come out on Day 2.

Very intense and spicy, amazing concentration and depth (aerated for 3 hours) - Dark, well concentrated with a nose of cherry, raspberry, spice, plum, pepper and vanilla, very well structured, needs time to integrate, complex, great acidity/tannins, sour on the palate with excellent length, save the next bottle for at least 5 years (91 Points).

Has quality and strength but overall not as layered as I like CDP. Very pronounced streak of Grenache. Good freshness. Better things out there.

Dark ruby colour. Carob, garrigue, meat, pepper and raisin nose. Rich, full and savoury palate; ripe fruit flavours with a long, warming finish.

Did not go with drunken goat cheese. Dusky and less body for a CdP. Needs time to open. Musty and earthy.

90-91+ pts
