A 2015 father's day gift to my dad, he's now serving my own wines back to me! 😄 Seriously though, I think it's a lovely thing to do when you're gifted wine to keep it to share with the giver. Classic Cab, pleasingly mid-weight rather than overly big and ripe. Tart red currant fruit and dry, savoury tannins. A bit of fresh eucalypt but not green, no capsicum/pyrezine. A bit of cigarbox but it's still mostly primary. Really nice drinking now but also no rush if you want to see tertiary development in your Cabs.

Screwcap working *too* well? 11yrs in bottle and even after an hour decant this wine was tasting a bit raw and I was rather disappointed with the 2 glasses I had. Remainder of bottle kept overnight and on day2 this was a much better wine.
Ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, foresty menthol notes - cedar?, some vanilla and earthiness. Slight syrupyness.
I think there's a good wine here, but it needs time

This was under screw cap, not decanted and note made on 2nd day open. Scored as low end of 'Excellent' on the CT scale.
2012 was an interesting vintage in the cooler regions of SE Oz, which includes Coonawarra. Whereas it was a great year in the traditionally warmer regions of the Barossa, McLaren Vale etc. care is needed with the cooler regions - it was a pretty mild summer and autumn, but rain often came at difficult times and the vintage has a reputation that benefits from it not being the horror year of 2011. Under-ripe elements can be an issue, although not in all cases.
This wine treads the line between under-ripe and just about ripe enough. There is a slight lack of definition in the fruit that leaves one resorting to descriptors like 'dark fruits' because it isn't easy to determine exactly what they most resemble. The flavour is quite pleasant and if pushed I'd say blackcurrant, but with a fair whack of herbaceous elements and cedar. The oak is a prominent factor but it is 'good wood' and not coconut/vanilla stuff. I think it shows a bit in the texture. There is good length and finish and the tannins, though firm are not too green. A solid St George but not a great one.

St George cab sav 2012 - tasted 27/28 Mar, with peppercorn pizza, meat and cheese pie, chinese roast duck, black pepper beef from joyful chef, so good. Finished in 2 days on my own. Checked price $82 per bottle! No wonder so good.

Beautifully balanced. Acid in check. Medium bodied. Dark fruits. Lovely nose of blackcurrants and cedar. Not syrupy at all, but offers plenty of ripe blackberries, blackcurrants and plums. Pepper, tobacco, olives. Survived very well over three days drinking. A classy wine and a certainty to age well.

Another lovely Coonawarra Cabernet. Regional cassis and blackberry flavours predominate on the front of the palate, with savoury black olive and meaty umami flavours on the back palate. Super fine tannins and a good acid balance. Those savours flavours lend the wine a nice complexity and a good length of finish. Still needs some bottle time to approach its best. A nice wine, but lacking that special x-factor I remember from earlier vintages.

A promising 92/100 (3.6/5.0) from me. I picked up a 6 pack from WineMarket with a few tricky discount codes and cash back scheme for just over $22 a bottle. Not bad for a cellar door $75 wine with a strong age-worthy reputation. This single vineyard Coonawarra classic has strong (mostly) blue and (some) black berries on the nose, with a touch of black olives and white flowers. The palate is smooth and predominantly blueberries and chocolate. But the new and seasoned French Oak of 18 months is standing out at this early stage.
Don't open for at least 10 years, where hopefully they'll be a savoury 95 waiting for the wise and patient.

Three hour decant; heap of dark fruits and leather and tobacco on the nose; dark cherry, currants and heaps of berries on the palate; medium to full bodied; intense yet quite soft; great finish. Delicious.

Decanted for 2 hours, poured back bottle and consumed over 3 hours, good until the last drop.

Really surprised by this wine. It was much much better than I expected. A lovely expression of Coonawarra Cab Sav.
