February 11, 2024 - A 2015 father's day gift to my dad, he's now serving my own wines back to me! đŸ˜„ Seriously though, I think it's a lovely thing to do when you're gifted wine to keep it to share with the giver.
Classic Cab, pleasingly mid-weight rather than overly big and ripe. Tart red currant fruit and dry, savoury tannins. A bit of fresh eucalypt but not green, no capsicum/pyrezine. A bit of cigarbox but it's still mostly primary. Really nice drinking now but also no rush if you want to see tertiary development in your Cabs.1 person found this helpful Comment -

May 26, 2023 - Screwcap working *too* well? 11yrs in bottle and even after an hour decant this wine was tasting a bit raw and I was rather disappointed with the 2 glasses I had. Remainder of bottle kept overnight and on day2 this was a much better wine.
Ripe blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, foresty menthol notes - cedar?, some vanilla and earthiness. Slight syrupyness.
I think there's a good wine here, but it needs time1 person found this helpful Comment -

April 4, 2022 - This was under screw cap, not decanted and note made on 2nd day open. Scored as low end of 'Excellent' on the CT scale.
2012 was an interesting vintage in the cooler regions of SE Oz, which includes Coonawarra. Whereas it was a great year in the traditionally warmer regions of the Barossa, McLaren Vale etc. care is needed with the cooler regions - it was a pretty mild summer and autumn, but rain often came at difficult times and the vintage has a reputation that benefits from it not being the horror year of 2011. Under-ripe elements can be an issue, although not in all cases.
This wine treads the line between under-ripe and just about ripe enough. There is a slight lack of definition in the fruit that leaves one resorting to descriptors like 'dark fruits' because it isn't easy to determine exactly what they most resemble. The flavour is quite pleasant and if pushed I'd say blackcurrant, but with a fair whack of herbaceous elements and cedar. The oak is a prominent factor but it is 'good wood' and not coconut/vanilla stuff. I think it shows a bit in the texture. There is good length and finish and the tannins, though firm are not too green. A solid St George but not a great one.4 people found this helpful Comment -
