  • Over the hill!

  • Opened immediately after one of the same that I threw out as corked. This was drinkable, but maybe I was already in a bad mood. Martinelli zins have not given me much pleasure the last half dozen times I've opened one, whether Jackass, Jackass Hill or Louisa and Guisseppe. The core flavor is just over ripe. This was like stewed prune brandy. Maybe it was too old, but I'm down. Open to anyone who wants to buy my Martinelli zin stock.

  • Corked, over the hill or just horrible. Could only take one sip before pouring out.

  • Serverades blint!

  • Oh my god!! This wine knock me out totally ... and not in a good way.
The alcohol is 17,2% and my body reacts on instinct when I try to drink this wine. I must admit that half of it ends up on my shirt.
It is so strong, sweet ans extracted that it is hard to drink.
If I was prepared to drink a Port I would just have taken a sip ... but a mouthfull ... don't end up well.
Even if I'm not fond of this wine I must admit that there is a lot of work behind that I must respect ... and I am sure lots of people like this style in wine ... but it is not my cup of tea.

Dark, thick and dense colour. Almost black.
Liquorice and salmiak (like Läkerol), jam, extracted red and black fruit and raisins. Extremely sweet.
Thick texture, extremely high alcohol, very very sweet taste, jam, some liquorice. No balance at all and to low on acidity.
I must say I like the tannins and the perfect use of oak.
Long finish, but driven by alcohol and the sweet jammy fruit.
Still I must give this wine quite good points because of the work behind this wine.
I believe this "Port" made of Zinfandel will have a long life. But will it ever reach balance? I think not.
