While past its prime, still lovely raspberry flavor and decent tannins. Complemented our grilled citrus salmon quite well and held up nicely over a two hour consumption time.

Tasted head to head against 3 Oregon offerings; the ’98 Torii Mor, White rose (94 pts), ’98 Domaine Serene, Mark Bradford (93 pts), and ’98 Starr, Winemaker’s reserve (92 pts). 3 hour decant and consumed over 8 hours; which seemed to be the perfect window. Although this Cali-PN was somewhat fuller-bodied and higher alcohol than its Oregon counterparts, it was still unmistakably pinot noir. Although slightly less complex than the Willamette Valley juices, the Martinelli was super-intense and completely jumped out of the glass; earning top honors in the nose concentration department. Drinking very well now, and even at 14 years old, this may actually have the stuffing to improve into 2016.

Decanted briefly before traveling to Pied a Terre for dinner with Linda & Mike Bittell. I didn't want to lose the essence of the wine so I didn't give it extended aeration. Neverheless at dinner it gained weight and continued to evolve. At dinners end as hour 3 lapsed it was at its peak displaying complex secondary development and approaching a 95. Sadly my last bottle of the 00!

Lovely, sweet red cherries and red currants on the nose, highlighted by strong rose petal, along with horehound and smoked meat notes. Palate is medium bodied with 20 second finish. Very nice suprise.
