Always a pleasure to return to my favourite NZ PN. It is known for its unorthodox concentration and complexity and this vintage is even beyond what I experienced before. Deep garnet colour. Intense aroma of medicine cabinet, rubber, smoky strawberries, herbs, spices, farmyard hint. Medium+ body, concentrated and luscious with pronounced earthy red fruit, smoke and roasted herb flavours, medium acidity, medium+ fine tannins.

Wow 16 years on and this Pinot Noir is drinking amazing. Martinbrough PN standing up really well. The colour is still vibrant only showing a slight browning on the edge. Nose of forest floor, earthy and mushroom. The earthy notes carry through along with plum good acid and punch. Spice on a finish that just keeps giving. Hasn't lost anything was expecting it to be a bit flabby.

Super wine from the get-go. Deep purple, a little faded on the rim. Classic aged Pinot nose with with complex mushroom and savory aromas, but still a lingering hint of cherry. Stunning in the mouth, restrained and elegant, building nicely though the mid-palate - a medley earthy flavours with thyme and sage - then pleasing lingering pine nut finish. Very happy to have got out the Burgundy Reidel glasses for this one. Always one of the best New World Pinot Noirs, this bottle of AR 2007 is also up there with the best of the old world, and not dissimilar in style. One of the very best wines we have had in the past year.

If you can find a better, more consistent top quality new world pinot than Ata Rangi, you are very very lucky. At 14 yrs this wine still has plenty of length, balance, primary fruit and soft tannins. Its a great wine. Enjoy now if you have any
