Purchased at auction last year to open for birthday celebrations (birth year wine). Unsure of previous storage etc. Some seepage around the cork. Wine was quite oxidised, dark yellow gold in colour. Almost no fruit left on the palate. Very developed nuttiness. Still had some acid to hold the wine together. Also maintained some bubbles. I would say well beyond its best, but still interesting to drink a champagne of this age. Carried a lot of the typical Bollinger nose and palate characteristics, even after all of these years.

Fresh with lovely sweet fruit, a creamy mouthfeel and bright minerally acidity. There were notes of baked apple, cinnamon and cloves along with some preserved lemon.

A magnum stored in perfect conditions since bottling. Old label, gold, no abv indicated; no back label. Cork almost impossible to remove, eventually it broke and had to be extracted with a corkscrew. There was ample mousse on pouring. The colour is honey gold. Delicious, ethereal scent of creamed mushrooms overlays slightly caramelised ripe fruits. High, poised and a little floral. Nice cushion of mousse on the tongue. The flavour is very powerful, following the nose. Initially mushrooms and pastry, then a slight lull on the midpalate, followed by rounded oranges and grapefruit, with a long lemon-butter finishIntense and uncompromising - qualities for which Bollinger is renowned. Clearly mature, but still vigorous. Intriguing metallic aftertaste develops after a few sips. An acquired taste, I suspect.

No detailed tasting note, but underwhelming versus the other wines at the table.
