An excellent bottle - savoury, earthy, terrific length and showing the the mature characteristics of a well made pinot - plum, cherry and hints of spices. One of the best Mount Mary Pinot that I have tasted in my collection. I have only given a score of 91 as Mount Mary has been a bit of a hit and miss affair when it comes to Pinot. Drink now or 3+ years.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of light ruby colour with wide garnet rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of red fruit of sour cherries and raspberry, floral notes of violet, mineral notes of earth, sweet spice notes of sage, kernel notes of chocolate, maturity notes of gamey. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with high acidity, the wine has medium tannin of smooth and silky texture, medium alcohol, medium body and medium intensity flavors of red fruit of cherries and raspberry, black fruit of plum, sweet spice of cloves, mineral notes of earth. The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Yarra Valley Pinot Noir with an intense nose showing good complexity, with the varietal fruit characters supplemented with a wide range of other aromas, highly interesting. The wine has a high acidity, lively and with good finesse, demonstrating reasonably concentrated flavors and a decent length on the finish. It is ready to drink now and can benefit from further ageing of another 4-6 years.

"2019" Sydney International Wine Show - stewarding notes; 10/7/2018-10/12/2018 (Blue Mountains, NSW): {diam, 13%} (Eric) Blind. Smoky, quite aged nose (at least in the context of tasting a bunch of new release wines). A bit tertiary; mature & herby; sage, thyme. The palate is spicy and sweaty, with hunts of jammy/chocolate flavours too. It’s medium-bodied and seems to lack a little for length, but evolves nicely in the glass to display a savoury, elegant character. It’s a ‘pretty’ wine, with its medium chalky tannin and medium/high acidity. Decent front and mid-palate presence. Just a medium length finish. When unveiled I was maybe disappointed, expecting more somehow, but it doesn’t seem to need drinking just yet and possibly the context wasn’t great (some wine having been already drunk…) Seems to be no rush with this; another 5-8 years won’t hurt at all, and will probably help in fact.

Still going strong after all these years and surprisingly fresh and fruity on the nose. A really lovely Pinot with some years left to go.

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay not from Burgundy; 2/17/2023-2/18/2023: Blind. Raisin on the palate, well balanced and integrated. Everyone guess as old world due to the profile.
