  • My first experience with this wine prompted me to approach it with an open mind, devoid of any preconceived notions. Yet, I was pleasantly surprised by its craftsmanship. While unmistakably youthful, its potential was evident. Over the course of four hours, its evolution was notable, with the peak of approachability achieved around the two-hour mark. Displaying the expected robustness of a very big Pinot, it exudes potent aromas of oak, raspberry, smoke, and strawberries. The firm tannins and subtle warmth from its higher alcohol content contribute to its allure. Does it live up to the hype? While a single tasting of this evidently youthful bottle leaves me somewhat undecided, it undeniably offers more than mere enjoyment; it delivers wonderfully.

  • Opened a bottle two nights ago to see how it is drinking. Didn’t have time to decant, but, despite what some others had to say, found it way too young for our taste. Strong tannins, low acidity, good fruit but it needs at least 2-3 more years to develop. Finished the bottle last night, decanted for about an hour and it was much better. Still very young. It has a lot of promise but I’m not going to even think of popping another bottle for at least another 18-24 months. If you do drink it, I would recommend decanting for at least 2-3 hours, more if you have the time.

  • Opened up a bottle this afternoon and decanted for 90 minutes. We had it at home with some Mexican chicken and steak street tacos, beans and rice. It was perfect. Lots of fruit - dark cherry, blackberries, a hint of smoke, a bit of tannin but not too much, low acidity. I go back and forth a lot with the Ten and the Southing - both are excellent. While this should be good for another 4-5 years, I wouldn’t wait on it. It is drinking perfectly right now, so pop one open and enjoy! For those of you who are reading this, here’s a bonus - I found a great hack for cleaning those tough spots in your decanters. It’s ice cubes - drop several in there and swirl them around. They act like little Brillo pads and will scour the bottom of your decanter clean!! Then rinse with water. A Votre Sante!

  • Appearance
    The wine is pale ruby.

    Nose
The wine is developing and exhibits pronounced aromas of red cherry, red plum, fig, cranberry, raspberry, savory spices, and mocha powder..

    Palate
The wine is dry with a medium body, high acidity, medium minus tannins, and medium plus alcohol exhibiting pronounced flavors of red cherry, red plum, cranberry, raspberry, mocha, vanilla, dried savory herbs with a long finish.

    Conclusion
The quality of this wine is excellent. That is a big beautiful pinot. It can be enjoyed now, but it will continue to develop with age.

  • While it’s early in this wines life, it is drinking very nicely right now! Concentrated fruit - especially dark cherry and raspberry. Very smooth lingering finish with plenty of flavor hitting your taste buds, Hadconsumed a 2022 Southing a few nights before and this was equally pleasing and will only continue to get better. Will wait another 12-18 months before having this vintage again as there are other ahead of this one. Appears to be another winner from Sea Smoke.
