New here. Came across this app searching up the bottle that I have 1987 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5 L. Was looking up to see what it's worth and if I should open it up and drink it or save it no information to be found 😔

Deep garnet in color with slight breaking edges. Austere nose of cherries and a hint of tobacco. Taste of dark cherries, leather, tobacco, and menthol. Well into tertiary flavors but still showing some tannins and fruit. Tasted without decanting. Past prime but went nicely with lamb. Drink now.

Decanted at 5pm and tasted throughout the evening. It is a medium to dark, slightly translucent garnet color with no visible bricking. I am not often impressed with the Napa valley bottling, even the older ones as I have experienced much better aging from the Alexander. In this case I was quite impressed. The nose was effusive from the start and remained so for 5+ hours. It has floral, herbal and spicy aromas that were balanced by ripe fruit of the cherry and boysenberry and plum varieties and some rich chocolate. I could see how a less well preserved bottle could appear “dill-y” but this was rich and attractive. On the palate it was velvety soft and rather bright with acidity for an older Cab. The finish had leather, licorice and spicy chocolate that lasted a good 30-45 seconds. Great with a grilled steak.

Delicious black cherry fruit with slight eucalyptus mint and oaky sweetness, soft, round, expansive, excellent structure, long finish, this wine was a huge surprise, clearly at its peak

Drink this 27 year-old 12 liter bottle at our Christmas party. Concerned that it might be too far past its prime. Was delighted with the bottle -- beautiful brick color as expected but also still had strong fruit and spice combined with elegance. Guess these larger formats do age more slowly. Thanks to Silver Oak for recommending out of their library.
