  • Popped and poured. On the nose leather, tobacco, capsicum, muted black fruits, nice nose. In the mouth a little cellar stink tang initially on the palate then it proves to be soft, silky, smooth, round, with the shadow of sweetly fruited darkness. Very impressive especially considering the vintage. Lovely with a rack of lamb.

  • I didn’t expect much from this wine, but thought it would be fun to celebrate my brother’s birthday by sharing a birth year wine with him that I knew would be one of the oldest wines he’d ever had. I pulled the cork in the early afternoon and gave it a gentle double decant about an hour before dinner at which point it wasn’t showing much.

My hopes rose when it was poured a couple hours later. Very nice on the nose with bell pepper, red currant, and a touch of leather and earth, which are mirrored on the palate. While it lacked the tannic or acidic structure it needed to bring it definition when drinking it on its own, it came to life once prime steaks were added to the equation. Not a great wine, but a satisfying performance from a wine for which I had few expectations and a particular thrill to be able to share the experience with my family.

  • Light carmine. The bouquet is exploding from the glass. Rich in nuances, oak and fruits. The wine is soft but not powerless. No sticky tannin left. Berries, oak and creamy, also in the very long aftertaste. This wine is at its absolute peak and really impressive, harmonious and complex. A beauty, definitely for the vintage. I found this wine in a shop in a neighbourhood where they do not spend much money on wine. What a pity it was, a restaurant owner discovered these “forgotten” bottles a few days after I bought mine and bought the lot. ;-(
