I had this wine a year ago. 98 points! Let's see if it's still so great. 🕐⏰🕙 An hour in the decanter. The first glass was good, but not to my highest expectations I had, because of my last year's experience. It was typical ChdP. Second glass and the wine is reborn! Yes! The same unique taste. Barnyard ( I still can't believe it can be in ChdP),smoke meat ( in ChdP?), earth, herbs, blackberry, red cherry. Still velvety texture. Taste? It's not so sweet ( with a positive meaning). More red then black. It's still nice with delicious red cherries, strawberries and this time even with mandarin. Blackberry is here, but no cassis. Herbs are here, but no chocolate! No spice, but despite of it, the finish is long with red cherry and cocoa. Very nice acidity and still grippy tannins. Unbelievable. Juicy juice with perfect balance. According to the WA Vintage Guide 2005 was outstanding vintage. Still tannic, youthful or slow to mature. 95 points! Jeff Leve - 94 WS - 91 JD - 91 RP - 90 WE - 89(???)

Classic stuff.

One of my favourite chateauneufs in an un-forced style. Colour not too developed. Nose more green olive and vaguely esturine (salty, smelly herbal in a pleasant way), rather than the raspberry of its youth. Onlt medium weight with a gentle finish. Ready but not falling apart and none of the clumsiness of some wines of the vintage.

Rating of this ChdP was very easy. In my wine Cosmos it belongs to very top ⭐. I'm not even sure how to describe this wine. Unique, one of kind experience for me. Too many things at same time. First of all - strong aromas of earth, barnyard, forest, herbs, smoke meat (👍) and finally black cherry (👍). Taste - velvety, texture, elegant balance. Condensed flavors of herbs, cassis, soft addition of black and red cherry. Licorice (?), milk chocolate, and it's more, but I have no idea how to describe it. Acidity and tannins? Plush, soft, lovely. Finish - some spice, some cherry, some milk chocolate. It doesn't last too long, but wait... it's 17 years old ChdP.

Reds drunk at home in winter: Cépage 50% grenache, 31% syrah, 12% mourvèdre, 5% cinsault and 2% other varieties. Twelve months ageing, 42% in barrels, 58% in foudres and wooden vats. Alc 14% ABV, pH 3.64, RS 2 g/l.
Drunk over two days. Good deep ruby with a touch of garnet at the rim. An attractive Châteauneuf nose of red rose perfumes, red plums - some stewed - and raspberries with traces of rocky minerals. A little dried herbs and tobacco leaf development. Sympathetic oak-derived vanillin spice notes. A better bouquet than palate. On opening, a full, rich entry, but thinner on mid palate and finish. After a couple of hours it filled out somewhat, remaining lean though and a little bitter. Bright, fresh acidity. Better with food. Red cherry, raspberry, espresso, dark chocolate and warm earth, with some old wooden chest. The last glass was the best (give it plenty of air). I like an elegant Châteauneuf but this one is a bit too underweight for me ... Drink in the next few years. It won't improve from here.
