  • A deep ruby blend of 38% Syrah, 35% Grenache, 25% Mourvèdre, 1% Cinsault and 1% other permitted varietals, Château La Nerthe's 2020 Châteauneuf serves up an aromatic core of black and red bramble fruits that are accented with notes of garrigue, allspice, white pepper and smoke. Full-bodied, freshly acidic, lightly oaked and with medium-weight, silky tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the aromas, adding a nice thread of graphite on the dense mid-palate. Despite weighing in at 15%, the wine's alcohol is well-integrated when served at the appropriate temperature. Finishing long and smooth, this is very enjoyable by virtue of its soft textures. Enjoy it over the next 10 years or so. Drink now-2034.

  • Raspberry, underripe blueberry, almond poppyseed muffin, and thyme. Smooth, dry palate. Soft tannins on the medium long+ finish.

This is young. I expect this will exceed my score in a few years.
