  • Some finely developed attractive tertiary notes of tar, cinnamon and stewed dark fruits such as blackberry, dark cherry and black plum. Drinking nicely now but can hold for many more years to come.

  • Very appealing modern CNP. Silky, charcoal; dark strawberries and blackberries.

  • PnP, and tight for the first hour or so. Slowly opens up to fresh raspberries and pepper on the nose, and raspberry, red licorice, black pepper, and tea on the palate. Tarry notes move in late on the moderately tannic finish. Elegant mouthfeel despite the alcohol (15.5%!). A well-crafted modern style of CdP.

  • Southern Rhône trip with Rainer. Tasted at the Domaine, with knowledgeable Véronique. 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre. €38. From a newly opened bottle. Medium to dark ruby. Great red and dark berry notes, herbs, pastille, spices and liquorice. More elegant and even more structured and complex than the 2016, with more prominent tannin. Good, fresh acidity and superb length. Dense and tight. Great structure. Very well-balanced despite of its youth. An impressive effort! Will need a lot of time.

Great Véronique gifted us the bottle (and the bottle of 2015 Les Hautes Brusquières) and we retried the wines over dinner picnic that evening. The high-quality tannin of this Mourre des Perdrix had tamed a little, but the wine still was very dry. Our initial impression was confirmed, a serious, very structured, very impressive CdP that will need a lot of time. At the tasting, I preferred the Brusquières, but at the retastings in the evening I preferred this Mourre des Perdrix.

  • Really lovely fruit definition on the nose here. Perfumed, feminine. Very driven by floral red fruits; cool, fresh and approachable. Nice mineral quality here and pure defined fruit. Very lovely.
