  • First tasted on (pre) release at Benvenuto Brunello in Montalcino. Liked it enough that I drove to visit with Luca (winemaker) in the days following the fair to buy this, and some more Brunello, too. I mention this because I liked it enough to drive to the winery and buy it, but I'd no idea it would have, could have, performed quite the way it did today, more than three years after its release. Fully mature, fresh, with vibrant, ripe red fruit (mostly cherry, some berry), soil, and some new leather. This was pulsating with vibrancy, volume, and buoyant acidity. Far more complex, and engaging than I was expecting, this was a great pleasure from start to finish (PnP). Organically farmed, with a very traditional cellar, these wines can take some time to unfurl - but when they do, wow. 15,0% abv., drink thru 2022. recommended+

  • From Enomatic, near Montalcino. Ruby core, clear. Dusty, leathery, with gravel, strawberry, cherry and high-toned raspberry. Medium finish, medium- complexity. Solid table wine, drink now with brief decant. Thru 2020. Great value, recommended
