  • Lunch: Perfect bottle, very high fill. This pours light garnet in the glass with moderate bricking. The nose is lovely on opening but is fascinating to watch evolve over two hours. Aromas are of cold smoke, crushed granite, fresh and raw cured bacon, dried cherries, cured olives, and whisps of pepper. Very alive. The palate is elegant and silky showing the dried cherries of the nose, turning to medium minus tannin, medium acid. The finish is only moderate in length but the texture is great. All in all this is just a gorgeous fully mature, prototypical northern rhone syrah if leaning more toward the side of elegance than others which can at times lean more into power. The moment about 30 minutes after first pouring where the glass just wreaked of fresh raw bacon straight from the butchers counter was quite thrilling to my palate. Really lovely stuff.

  • 1982-1991 Cote-Rotie and Hermitage (Chave, Gentaz, Jaboulet, Jamet, Jasmin, Ogier) (Berkeley): Group's #1; my #5; 4 first; 3 second; 4 third; 0 last. Aromas and flavors of cherries, currants, spice, and smoked meats. Medium-bodied, with good fruit concentration, high acidity, medium tannins, and a medium finish.

  • Medium deep red colour, pretty good for the age.
The cherry / blackcurrant fruit pastille-like aroma was edged with a little sweetness.
On the palate the wine was subtle, nicely balanced with now soft acidity. In comparison to the others on the tasting it didn't offer massive complexity, but it's balance was perfect. 1 hour later it was still holding together well, retaining the great balance.

  • Bought at Yapps Bin End sale, didn't really know what to expect since I'd never thought of Jasmin as being long lived.
Solid cork. Not decanted. Look of aged burgundy - red core with paler/orange rim. Some fruit on nose, smells clean, but muted. Palate clean, but not very interesting - dull red fruit.
Hoped it might 'come alive' if left a while.
Retasted 1 hour later - yuck! Now just dull and disjointed, quite unpleasant

Oh well, just too old I think - Knackered.
