While this wine's best days are behind it, it was charming nonetheless. Clear ruby in color, with surprisingly little bricking, the wine started off somewhat dilute and shy. After decanting and swirling a bit the nose picked up nicely, with lovely red fruit, some savory spice notes, a hint of earth. On the palate this was light, with fully resolved tannins, with a quite short finish. Drink up if you got 'em!

An evening of Rhone (Ponte Vedre Club): Very classic Rhone and interesting because in many ways it reminded me more of a hermitage than a cote rotie (the best analogy I have is often aged hermitage has that all over the place feeling that I get with finger painting whereas I associate CR with more structure and power). This was funky and gamey and fruity and different combinations with every sip. Drinks very well and certainly a lovely wine from one of the early pioneers of the region.

Elegant and fine, the fruit is a bit subdued, but does open up with time. Dried red fruits and some prunes, its a soft leathery wine that is supple and curvaceous. Delicate tannins mark the finish, with some peppery pastrami spice. Good with lamb or goat.

Tasted alongside a 2016 Aubert (random). The age came through, but still well balanced I liked it but not passionate about it.

Blunt, closed and quite dense. This clearly needed a longer decant and was not given a fair chance to show its stuff.
