Tasted from MAGNUM (open for 48hrs) Moved to the spice-end of Syrah, with a nose that is ethereal and perfumed with notes of licorice, toasted wheat grain, and that wonderfully sweet farmyard hayloft, crossed with garrigue herbs, rosemary, pine and tapenade. Fruit there, but more baked and fruitcakey than fleshy. Savoury and gamey on the palate, with a touch of oxidised porty rancio. Nutty and fully, with lovely mineral slatey notes, savoury gamey meat, almost smokey bacon and that bitter black olive powder. There's plenty of flavour concentration and incredible length. Tannins are slightly dusty but fine-grained and balance out that intensity of flavour. Just epic and has enough oomph still to last another 5-10years easily.

Dark garnet color in the glass. On the nose some iron and blood and red fruit. This was simultaneously savory and fruit forward. Some luscious red and black fruits, wrapped in the meaty, black olive and savory notes. Still very fresh and lively and really enjoyable to drink.

Nose is kinda dirty, antiseptic, feral, blood & iron, sour raspberry. Palate is nice and silky with some cranberry, clove, rust, and the barest amount of sweetness at its core. Reminds me of old Jaboulet Thalabert - has the same bretty hospital funk and stripped down-to-the-metal feeling.

Gorgeous and finally coming around. Lighter ethereal had lots of lift. Clean not very rustic. Polished for syrah. finish was long.

1982-1991 Cote-Rotie and Hermitage (Chave, Gentaz, Jaboulet, Jamet, Jasmin, Ogier) (Berkeley): Group's #2; my #2; 4 first; 5 second; 2 third; 1 last. Complex aromas and flavors of dark fruits, game, spice, and oak. Silken smooth and almost youthful in the mouthfeel. Medium-bodied, with good fruit concentration, medium acidity, mild tannins, and a long finish.
