  • I had the luxury of opening a magnum of Domaine Tortochot’s Gevry-Chambertin 2012 Champerrier from old vines, but it was still not enough to quench my thirst. Domaine Tortochot embodies true devotion to terroir and Pinot Noir. Their vines are nearly 100 years old and sit on 300m altitude slopes. In the vineyard, there is an unwavering tenacity for organic farming practices and use of ambient factors. On the nose, there was already an overwhelmingly deep, savory note of champignon mushrooms and umami. On the palate, the flavor profile became much more fresh and vivacious. It consisted of bright red notes such as sour cherry, raspberry, cranberry and rose. The fruitiness was tempered by cedar, bark and the finish was a delicious and persistent note of cool graphite. Although the wine’s structure is led by a racy acidity, there is also a concise minerality that results from the chalky clay limestone soils of Gevry-Chambertin.

  • Surprisingly ready. It is a medium-bodied wine with good amount of ripe red berries and oak on the palate. A decent everyday burgundy that is ready to drink now. Looking forward to trying his prem cru and grand cru wine.
