  • Bright ruby on the rim and dark ruby at the core. The profile shows raspberry, blackberry, black cherry, tobo wrapper, spice, tar, bitter orange zest and some vanilla. Excellent balance and somewhat velvety mouthfeel. Long finish. A tremendous difference from 1.5 years ago. The prior bottle was indeed in a dumb stage. Some grains of sediment about the shoulder and neck and in the glass. 13.1% alc. With sausages and grilled eggplant napoleon (layered with mozzarella and arugula). Recommended.

  • An inky dark core with bright ruby on the rim. The profile shows black cherry, tobo wrapper, spice, tar, bitter orange zest and oak. The attack is short and the finish even more disappointing with a bitter, green aspect. I don’t know if this is in a dumb stage or just not a good wine. Some sediment about the shoulder and neck. 13.1% alc. With pan seared beef New York Strips with a bourbon glaze. Not Recommended at this time.

  • Friday, March 03, 2006 After a disappointing showing of a Va. Petit Verdot at a recent off-line, I pulled a different one to see how it might be coming along. A deep and brooding core with blood on the rim. Cinnamon, brown sugar, plum, blackberry and other dark fruits. Although a medium mouthfeel as to weight, it nevertheless is rich, textured with fine tannins that have not fully integrated and won’t for several years. This is a big wine, but not as big and extracted as I recall the Chrysalis being. Nevertheless, one to put down for another 5 years or so. 13/1% alc. With flank steak. Good pairing but this would stand up to a lot more. After the motion to strike success in the Harris/Dedrick Estate case.
