So I bought a cellar; 11/12/2022-12/31/2030: This wine still has life. A muted nose upon opening, but red fruit on immediate first pour. So open bottle for a few hours, then a brief decant, before serving. Once served, a bigger nose, with leather and red fruit. Plenty of fruit on the palate, but still the leathery goodness expected from an older Italian. The wine held up well, and certainly held its own against the two Bordeaux that followed.

More than fully mature and on its decline but still holding together and showing elements of it past greatest glory. Extra point for its age worthiness. Loads of funk that need to blow off, but did rather quickly, even if a little stayed on the palate for some extra character. There are times when you are thankful to get to taste a wine at this stage of its development because it reminds you of how top quality wines are sometimes not given enough benefit of the doubt about how long they can still show their stuff.

Layers of red and black fruit, resolved tannins, leather, maybe some bergamot. Simply lovely.
