  • Wine Dojo - Week 13 - A Sticky Situation!!! (Annette's Place): Tasted Blind

    A: Pale amber
N: Honey, dash of ginger, tapioca, apricot, apple, citrus blossom, sage. Pronounced intensity and developing.
P: Sweet, medium (+) to high acid, full body, medium (+) intensity, long finish. 11.5% abv
C: BLIC? Ticks everywhere. Outstanding Quality and still room for improvement. Shocked this was 18 years old after the reveal. The color is very youthful. Can drink now but will increase in complexity if you leave it 5+ years.

    GUESSES:
Thought this was SAUTERNES. Tasted just like what i would expect......maybbbeeeeee the sage (well hidden) was a giveaway.

    MISTAKES:
The citrus sits a little further back than i might expect from a Sauternes.....perhaps.

  • Dark golden honey color. Bouquet of honey, citrus, botrytis, caramel. Decent acidity keeps the wine in balance, but just barely. (The lack of full acidity caused my score to be 91 instead of 93). Flavors of apricot, honey, pineapple, caramel and botrytis. Thick, viscous and rich.

  • Medium gold color. This has a stony nose, with faint aromas of mint. The palate is relatively austere, with some faint flavors of brown sugar simple syrup and honey. This finishes reasonably long but does not gain depth or complexity on the way. Tried again over the course of a week, it hasn't broadened out any more (as sometimes happens with Sauternes). Having enjoyed Hétszőlő's Tokajs in the past, this is a somewhat disappointing aberration.

  • Dark yellow colour. Wonderful fresh and cool nose. Tastes of peaches, apricots, well balanced by acidity. Botrytis notes maybe a tiny bit too intrusive. As it warms up in the glass the sweet honey notes become more prominent. Excellent.

  • Golden color. Mostly honey and candied orange and apricot notes on the nose and palate. Sweet but not cloying. Good acidity and a long finish. Very nice.

(Hetszolo Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos) COLOR-medium amber; NOSE-heavy pineapple; apricots as well; a little herbaceous as well that I like; PALATE-this has tremendous viscosity; much more weight; the flavor explodes and coat the palate; a very long finish; great wine; great complexity; butterscotch on the finish; GV-93
