Clear garnet color. Great nose, very floral, with red roses, and dried red fruits. Great palate, balanced and soft, with integrated tannins. Very long finish. In a perfect spot.

Christmas dinner with mushroom risotto. THE BEST red cherry Kool-Aid aroma. More fig and raisin into the palate. Excellent first bottle.
Day 3...dark cherry look aid POWDER palate. Maybe losing some steam today, but...settles into some brown sugar on the palate. Lots of freshness. No tannin remains. Not losing steam. Still holding strong into day 3.

A convincing demonstration of how Barbaresco can rival Barolo, tasted from the Wine Watch horizontal of 1990 Barolo vs. Barbaresco tasting. The wines were all poured in separate glasses, permitting repeated side by side comparison in order to rank the wines. Impressively dark, aromatic, bright, generous, concentrated, and rich, yet strongly structured by acidity and tannin. The texture is unusually silky for a Nebbiolo. With no hint of deterioration, this wine shows every sign of being able to be superbly enjoyed another 5 to 10 years. The 95 point review in the Wine Advocate is spot on, except for misleadingly calling this wine jammy when it has zero taste of any sugar sweetness.

Although stored at 55 degrees, I was worried that a 1990 barbaresco might be getting a bit long in the tooth. I did not need to worry with this wine. It still has time. This is a classic, brawny "old style" barbaresco from a top vintage and top producer/vineyard. Very complex. Lots of leathery nebiolo fruit, with good concentration and balance. If all my 89 and 90 barolos and barbarescos are this good, I will be happy. Second bottle in May of 2015 is the same.
