  • Patron brought it to Kyla for the group. Nose over the hill, but still some life on the mid palate, spicy fruit. Not bad.

  • Excellent. Generally very similar comments to last year. Drunk alongside the 2009 which was under screw cap. very different wines, in part because of difference between contrasting screw cap and cork development. So, I'm not sure the 2009 would ever be quite like the 1999 - it's retained a lot of berry freshness.

Excellent. It's funny because previously I commented that I like the 1999 more than the 1998 'which is Grenache dominant', yet the '99 seemed more Grenache dominant than the 2009 on this occaion. This is 52% Shiraz. 14.5% alc. It's similar though.
    Colour: dark browning red berries
Bouquet: sweet dusty fruit, black cherries and licorice, touch of vanilla and leather, getting slightly porty.
Palate: as bouquet, very spicey, raspberry from the Grenache and blackberry, black olives, brambly characters, soft dusty chewy tannins, very developed fruit, great mouth feel, long clean finish. Dry herbs and twigs. Dry finish..

  • Lush red fruit, lengthy finish, tannin has smoothed out. Elegant but high intensity wine, not subtle but then I don't expect that from the Maclaren Vale. It's a cracker!

  • Although the wine appeared to be in good condition (moist cork, proper dark-inky color), it lacked any fruit or nose even after being open several hours. The still appeared to be strong, dry tannins so maybe decanting would have helped. Unfortunately, not one of my favorites
