Nose of cedar with an herbal backgroundWhem it opened it added cocoa notes. Flavor was black cherry and blackberry. Finish was dry with some tannins making it dry but enjoyable with notes of cocoa.

I waited a half hour before initial swirl and sip and an hour before tasting. Alluring scents of dark fruits leads into an elegant but mellow upfront burst of stewed cherries and plum with hints of pepper. A preface of well-balanced and bright harmony leads to a thin, subdued finish - appropriate, given the occasion. Past her prime, with mischievous tannins long departed, she makes for an acceptable date and starter to this year's family thanksgiving dinner. Given the bottle year, she was once a Bond girl or muse to a Bond villain, but now she's just my companion for the evening. An hour and a half post opening, she starts charming with her cocoa notes and shows a little more character; still finishes thin and mellow.

Still on the young side, could use another 2-3 years in the bottle. Nose of tobacco and blackberry and smoke. Medium plus body. Palate somewhat tightly wound though not austere or imbalanced. Concentrated earth and mineral flavors along with berry fruit and hints of butterscotch and red vines. Firm tannin lingering with cherry acidity and a dry earth note on finish.

Dark garnet; berry, mint, prune (14.5 alc.), wood nose; mid-big body; grapey, thick, chewy; a little one-dimensional; wood on the palate, too. Can use a little more aging. w/beef.

Consistent notes with my earlier bottle from 3 years ago. Decent balance, structure and finish, especially for a $27 Napa Cab. But just doesn't have a good fruit mid-palate. Consistent over three nights.

Turned up to be quite a pleasure. Started a little one dimensional with overwhelming fruit. Black Currant domination. But over some time and with food to accompany it became quite good. Good fruit/tannin balance plus nice spices as well.

Very dry cab with some tartness that reminded me of green apple. This probably led me to find that green apple flavor at the finish. Drank along side a Terra Valentine Yverdon 07 that overwhelmed the Mount Veeder. May have been scored higher if on its own. I was definitely influenced by other wine (scored 94)

Wow. What a difference two years makes. This was an inexpensive wine ($18) and drank it through 2011, but still had two bottles on hand today. We opened one tonight and this wine really aged well. The tannins are resolved, the wine is silky with medium depth, flavors of dark fruits, tobacco, slight oak and earth. Drinks really well and is a an unexpected surprise!

PnP through Nuance Wine Finer. Dark purple ink color. On the nose, velvety dark fruit, a little vanilla. On the palate, tremendous balance. Dark fruit, a little oak, a little spice. Nice fairly long finish. Drinks well alone (and would expect it to go well with food). 90+ pts. Aloha!

Black and Red fruit on the nose with a healthy dose of heat. Toasted oak. Great mouthfeel, very dense. This is not holding up like I thought it would. Very black on the palate, witha good midpalate transition that involves some olive tapinade. Finish is becoming less stable, with heat protruding and thus shortening the experience.

Completely discombobulated. Very smoky, old leather. No harmony yet. Had after several hours of decanting and then the next night. Still needs lots of time. Has proimise and will probably be very good in a few years, I hope.

Not overly impressed. Garnet in color with a muted nose. Almost an olive, fresh dirt taste initially that opened up after 3 hrs in the decanter. I know this is not a high end cab but it is supposed to be mountain fruit and I just wasn't that impressed with it. After the decant, you could still taste the earthiness but the unripe fruit really came through with almost a bitter taste. I love big bold cabs and this did not do it for me. The tannins were note overpowering in any way and the acidity was hardly noticeable. The finish was quick and in my opinion didn't leave much of an impression. Again my name is not Bobby Parker Jr. though.

Three hour decant. Not getting much this time since opening one up last year. The dark fruits are there but not overpowering; everything else is out of focus. I am hoping that this is just bottle variation and will have to open another bottle in the not so distant future. 86-87 pts.

This wine protested being opened for approximately 30 minutes before revealing hallmark Napa Cab flavors. The nose is fleeting but the palate is rich with purple fruit on a solid frame with a little earth which rounds out the wine quite nicely. I have been disappointed with this vineyards 05 and 06 standard cab bottlings but it looks like they pulled it back together....no surprise given the outstanding Napa 2007 harvest. Great everyday Cab!

PnP, notes over the course of 2 hours. Inky, dark, intense, glass-staining legs indicate this classic mountain terroir is in full effect. The nose is surprisingly light, with equal parts violet, black fruit & vanilla. However, the explosion of rich, ripe fruit confirms the best of this winery & its unique Napa location. Black currant, brambly blackberry, mint, and my favorite, mocha coffee. A long chalky finish with plenty of oaky tobacco. It's the wine that keeps on giving. It's so well-balanced, sharp acidity, velvety tannins, it's hard to believe that this is a $25 (I paid $20) bottle of Napa cabernet. Once again, Mt. Veeder Winery proves to me that they produce the best value in Napa, but I'm worried I can't find more!

Drank after 07' L'Ecole No.41 Cab. Came across much bigger and more complex than the L'Ecole. I picked up an herbal note underlying the dark fruit, mocha and cassis flavors. Also had a much longer and noticeable finish.

Popped and poured 3 bottles to friends on golf trip. It was immediately drinkable and opened nicely over time; dark fruit and a nice tannic backbone to age. I think this is good for 5 more years easy. Good value to me.

Decanted 4-5 hours…it was totally fine but no Wow. For normal price $25 I would expect more and at least a hint of Cali '07 cab lushness and I didn't quite get it. These $20 Cali cabs are no better deal than the $14 ones.

First bottled was corked, this bottle was fine. Poured nice, hints of fruit as soon as it was flowing. A quick bite to the pallet, but then it settled just right, hints of oak, with a heavy wine finish which makes me feel like I'm drinking a quality wine. Smokey and oakey, a touch of earthy here for me.

Decanted for 30 minutes. Some good dark fruit and even some dried cherry. The most expressive aroma and taste is the tobcacco and cedar. The fruit moves on quickly but that tobacco and cedar just hangs around right through a fairly long finish.
Can't see how this improves much more, so drink now or over the next couple years.

USA Cabernet Masterclass (Rockpool Bar and Grill Sydney): Colour: Purple, medium plus intensity, some tearing. Nose: Medium minus intensity slight funkiness - like creosote - plus vanilla, blackberry, toasted oaks, nuts and a slight greenness. Mouth: Slight creamy texture, black cherry and berry over spice and green leaf and mint. Medium plus tannin is a little gritty on the finish but not obtrusively so. Very nice indeed and, of course, impossible to get in Australia.

Taste at Smith and Wollensky during server meeting. A little heat. Touch of Syrah in the mix gives it a light pepper quality. Can sense that varietal more in the nose than the palate. A little light on the mid palate but a well made wine. Indicative of the vintage.

Very rich dark berry and a hint of black licorice on the nose. Very dry tannins that are neither firm or bitter, just extremely dry and masking some of the great fruit in here. Will expect much higher scores in the future once tannins soften since the fruit is extremely rich, focused & delicious.

Really nice example of a "budget" 07 Napa Cab. As I said in a previous note with the 07 Mondavi Napa, this is such a stellar vintage. Nose is more muted than some of its peers, but you get blueberry and plum.Oak and cedar present but not over the top. On the palate you get some brighter fruit like kirsch. The tannins are present but don't knock you over like so many young Cabs I've tried lately. Overall good balance, but it's not going to get noticably better in my opinion. This is one that you don't need to revisit in 5 years.

Royal purple from the brim to red ruby as you move toward the center of the glass. The nose of this wine just jumped from the decanter. Wild mountain blueberries, cherry, cedar and a bit of scorched vanilla bean; and I do get some star anise. Soft across the palate for a young big cab. This is a perfect example of the tremendous quality of the '07 vintage. Those that have access to quality vineyards have no baseline cuvee. The fruit far exceeds what they can charge for the label affixed to the bottle in comparison to any other vintage. This wine just blows up in your mouth. Very dry texture, but big juicy fruit. The tannins are in place to see this through another ten years, and it will be very interesting to watch the fruit develop over the same period. Right now the taninns are soft yet evident. This wine is remarkably light on its feet considering the density of the fruit. Great length and balance. It shows a bit of youth on the finish with some astringency. Buy a case and drink over the next ten years. What a great value. I would recommend NOT decanting if drinking it young. Over the three + hours decanted, some of the fruit aromas have given way. This is the only flaw I can find.

Opened 3 bottles at dinner party paired with a 6# rosemary pesto tenderloin. Allowed 1 hour to breath. Could have been all the competing aromas in the kitchen/dining room but the nose seemed a little weaker than expected. Dark cherry / currant with gentle oak and spices. Well balanced but lacked the depth expected in a $40 cab. Fortunately it was sale for $20 - so I am glad I bought 6.

Again my name is not Bobby Parker Jr. though.
