  • NV Sabine Godmé Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs

Celebrating May Day 2024 with this awesome Grower/RM Champagne. The nose is open with mild biscuity notes and plenty of ocean mist. Palate exhibits pears and mild green apple along with the notes from the aromas. Crisp and refreshing with a very fine mousse. Decent finish that extends with a chalky minerality. *100% pinot noir from their plots in the grand cru villages of Verzeney and Verzy. *Sabine Godmé and her husband, Jean Marie Guillaume represent the 4th generation of Maison Godmé, which have previously offered their champagne under the following lables: Godmé Joseph, Godmé Bertrand, and Godmé Père et Fils. *They grow and produce their champagne from 5.5 hectares across 3 grand cru and 2 premiere cru villages.

  • 2016 Clos Apalta Le Petit Clos

Nose of black cherries and dark fruit with some herbs and a touch of freshly sliced, green bell pepper with occasional whiffs of violets. Palate echoes. This wine really explodes in the mouth for a Chilean cab (usually more refined and smooth) and follows with big vegetal/herbal finish. There is plenty of acidity and some tannins remain, so plenty of aging room left. At the end of the day, a little disappointing given high professional marks, and I think it has to do with this wine's more vegetal/herbal elements. I did enjoy it though, just expected more and different... *Le Petit Clos is Clos Apalta's second wine. *2016 vintage comprised of: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4%Merlot, and 1% Carmenère. *Clos Apalta winery is owned by Lapostolle.

  • 2019 Alta Vista Malbec Single Vineyard Alizarine Vineyard

Nose of dark black cherries, dried flowers or potpourri, and cocoa. Palate echoes but focused more on dark cocoa and fruit. The entire palate is engaged and the wine has a nice, medium-powered finish that extends for ages with a bright, almost minty, spicy wave. Some tannins remain and good acidity. *Alta Vista was founded in 1998 and occupies a winery built in the late 1800s. It's currently owned by Frenchman, Count Patrick d'Aulan whose family once owned the Piper-Heidsieck Champagne house. *Alizarine is one of three single-vineyard offerings. 100% Malbec from ungrafted root-true vines planted in 1923. *7,576 bottles produced for this 2019 vintage.

1/4/2023 7:08:00 PM - Welcome aboard the Crazy Train, comrade. My father took me to Dallas in 1974 (he was not E Howard Hunt) on what was quite an important trip in my development - we went on to Mexico and seeing the contrast was formative. I like your photo and Brussels is a splendid city - I say that as one who dislikes cities. I see you recently had the Rieussec; have you had the chance to compare with d'Yquem and if so, thoughts?
