Deep red with violet tint. Starts with an almost effervescent nose of cherry (cola?) which subsided to brooding, secondary nites of spice, ripe cherry, some woods, oak, and hints of vanilla. Still going strong 13 years in, but definitely not the fruit forward wine of its youth.

Pop and pour. Very ripe, showing loads of cherry and a hint of tobacco/brambles. On the palate, pure sweet cherry and ok acidity, perhaps slightly flabby; almost syrah texture, but soft finish, with tannin resolved.

Nose is huge with dense, rich black cherries and spice. A bit too much on the palate with sweet and somewhat cloying cherry fruit. One of my gateways Pinots when I first got into wine ... but not my cup of tea anymore.

Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Small glass, brief note. Big and bold black fruit that is just barely starting to fade, but the concentration keeps this from seeming tired. Probably better a year or three ago, but certainly still enjoyable.

Aromas dried cherry, rose petal, hint of root beer, beet and touch of spice. This is still holding strong at age 9 with flavors of wild cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and sassaspirilla. This ends with a 25 second finish. Probably a touch better in its youth.

Not my favorite of the KB lineup but this did not disappoint. My last bottle of 4 and I wish I had one more for the longer haul. The color was dark garnet resembling a more youthful wine. You could tell from the nose this was a powerhouse in its youth and needed to shed the baby fat. Drink up but you can still take your time.

Deep garnet in the glass with a wonderful nose of red fruit and kirtsch. A beautiful wine that is as perfectly integrated as it could be. Red and dark fruit with hints of creamy cola with that hint of vanilla on the end.
Wonderful from the first sip to mid palate through the finish. A perfect complement to Christmas turkey dinner.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of fertilizer, white pepper, berries and plums. Flavors of berries, raspberries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.
My guess was this is the 2007 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Amber Ridge Vineyard that I brought. In all fairness I knew it was in the lineup and I did smell it in bottle when I double decanted it before serving to make sure it wasn't tainted so it was easier to pick out of the line up as a result.
This wine came in 6th place out of 14 wines with 10 tasters participating giving an average score of 90.80.

This is drinking quite well now. The little bit of fruit is just enough to make this such a gentle wine. Black tea, slight funk, smooth, soft. While this can hold another few years without drop off, I'd open it up by 2015. Exceptional. Great PNP but 2 hour decant is worth the wait.

PnP w/2 hrs in decanter. Clear, very deep ruby red. Classic huge KB nose. This was an excellent bottle. Absolutely perfect drinking window integration/balance. Usual KB notes of cola, red/black fruits, not overly ripe, very long/big finish with a touch of tannin and sour cherries. One of the better KB's I've had and hitting on all cylinders. Nothing off. $84 w/tax/shipping. Drink now or by 2015.

Popped & poured. Deep, rich color. Nose of roasted game, red currant, raspberry compote, & pipe tobacco covered with white chocolate sauce. Intense flavors (almost syrah-like) of cedar, black cherry & graham cracker crust dipped in caramel. Glass staining, legs hang on forever!

It’s got that dark purple color that reminds me more of syrah than pinot noir. The aromas were very compact and hesitant upon opening, so I threw this in the decanter and let it sit for several hours. Over time it started showing some black cherry and brown sugar. Even over the course of four hours in the decanter, the aromas were still restrained. Very fresh on the palate, but full of compact cranberry fruit. This shows much more red fruit than some other Kosta Browne vineyards that have more of a gushing blackberry flavor, and I really like these flavors. There’s some mocha and toast, but it’s very well-integrated. With air a lovely plum flavor came out, it just coats the palate and the tannins are firm and provide serious structure. There’s also this classic Kosta Browne flavor of cherry cola and that Russian River cool red and black fruit. Over time the fruit expressed more and more, growing in concentration and purity. Vanilla accents the flavors. Long finish. This showed very well, but if I had any more I’d put it down for two or three more years at least.

Wow.....Kosta Browne always makes monster Pinot's and this one is no exception. A Cab lovers Pinot because it is so dark, rich and extracted. Lots of vanilla, cherry and cola.

Much more intense than I was expecting. Like TDud says - it feels like a blend of PN and something - maybe a rhone. However, I really enjoyed the masculine flavors and fruit.

This wine is very dark for a Pinot. It is a cross between a Pinot and a cab. Black fruit and chocolate on the nose. Very rich chocolate and dark fruit on the palate. A very complex wine with a silky mouth feel. I'd be happy drinking this wine every day.

Pop and pour. Enjoyed on the first night; re-corked and tasted on day two. Seems a bit disjointed. Good dark color. Nose of red berries and spice. Showing some earthy mushroom notes on the nose as well. Good fruit with a tangy component that shouts above the room. Spicy. A little heat. Some vanilla and more spice on the finish.

--- COLOR: Purple-garnet with a garnet-ruby rim NOTE: Tasted against the 2008 Aubert Reuling and this wins. Nose is a complex mixture of dried red berry fruits, minerals, garrigue, cinnamon and cola. Mouth is med-hvy and bursts with bright red fruit juices: strawberry, raspberry, pomagranate. Then the savory component slides in underneath and you pick up bay leaf, sage, rosemary, white pepper. The acidity makes it real easy to take another sip, and everything remains in balance throughout. The finish still showcases the fruits, but they turn a little dried and persist for 30 seconds. Overall this is a very nice PN.

Needed 1+ hours of air after pouring a glass off. I was hoping to get the notes Laube got in his early 2011 KB vertical and I DID. The nose was dark and alluring with notes of tar, gravel and dark berries with dark berries following suit on the tasty juicy mouth. A very nice wine and my first '07 vineyard designate to date (not enjoyed at release).

We drank this at my wife's b-day dinner. Cola and cherry, deep earthy tannins. The spice scents and flavors were intense as well - lingering in the long finish. Kosta Browne's single vinyard options are consistently outstanding.

14.6% alcohol. Bright cherry color. Aromatic nose of black cherry, blackberry, heavy baking spice, and a lurking mineral note. In the mouth, impressive balance on a big frame, with slightly jammy fruit but enough earth and spice elements to stand up to it and keep the wine well-balanced. Bright acidity and a strong finish, with just a touch of back end warmth. Very nicely done. A-

Poured into a decanter and tasted this wine over 4 hours. Do not plan pop and pour, only after 3 hours did the wine start to sing. I would recomend a 4+ hour decant in a decanter is required. Color was deep and brooding. The legs were as many as a centiped. There was a light smell of earth, sweetness, floral, and fruit. The taste was spectactular with silky sweet tannins, yes it was a big pinot, dark fuit, smoke, backed by earth. The alcohol was noticeable early on but blew off over time. A spectatular wine.

A fun and easy to drink wine that paired well with Thanksgiving. Not as cola sweet as other KB instead we have a mix of red cherry and cranberry (maybe was the sauce?); then plums. I agree with below mentioned that this may drink better in time, but there is no reason to wait.

quite light on the palate for a Kosta Browne, which is a good surprise. not heavy or cloying, usual cherry, cola, strawberries, but what made this wine good was its overall harmony, from start to finish it seems to flow seamlessly, nothing is too dominant, has enough acidity to prevent it from being too sweet, but not too tart to make it hard to sip alone. no heat, long finish, has some smoky, leafy forest floor flavors to make it interesting. pretty good wine, but at $74 its a bit expensive. Definitely a great buy if this was like $49.

What an incredible wine! Should be amazing at 6-10 years of age. Great ripe red fruits, maybe black cherry and strawberry with a little plum. Very complimentary vanilla and smokey tones from French oak. Opened up as time past. Avery nice satisfying finish. Tannins were very well integrated and showing a softness. Has the stuff to age nicely.

Initially muted upon opening and restrained on the palate. After giving air for about 75 minutes this beauty began to open up and show its stuff. A luscious wine with strawberry, cherry and tanins that have not quite integrated. This one will be better in another year. A long, rich finish.

Reticent on opening, but a short decant and this wine balloons into a huge, lucious Pinot. Mouthfuls of pure ripe strawberries, with just enough sour damson to keep things fresh. Dark, deep and spicy. The slightly sweet, sappy finish sails on for days.

This was my first SVD from KB and it did not dissapoint. It had incredible balance with the classic cola and cherry flavor KBs are known for. Wine was ready to drink after pulling the cork and developed in complexity over the 4 hours of decanting/drinking. Typical of 07 RRV pinots it drinks well now but you can tell this wine will go for another 5-7 years.

We drank this during the release at the warehouse so really this is the first tasting of this wine for us at least. Explosive up front fruit with an abundance of cherries flavors up front. This seductively bold wine is drinking well today and should continue to do so for some time, but why wait. With my two friends this was their favorite however it was my second choice compared to the Gary's.

07 KBs in The OC: More complex on the nose and mid palate than the appellation wines. More plummy. There are elements in this wine that remind me of SLH. Not my favorite thing but the bright fruit and acid made this very nice. The finish was dull and too rich. I'll be curious to see where that ends up.

OC KB and Shane Dinner--With Michael Browne and Shane Finley (The Murray Casa): In looking at my impression of this wine just 2 months ago, when we tasted it from bottle in the KB barrel room, I found the wine to be significantly better. I expect that the drinking temperature this time added some elements to the wine not present last time, when I think I got the wine at too cool a read. Served this time, like all the other 2007 KBs we did, at about 65 degrees--ish. Expressive nose, with a dark fruit core and a cedary, even lightly tannic edge. What is the most different this time versus June's perception is the wine showed more weight, more density, almost pushing up the edge of jammy but in defense of the wine, it stops short of that place and really pulls off the balance. Dark red apple, some cola nut and mineral. I think the best Amber Ridge that MB has made to date.

Dinner with Jim Mack & Michael Browne (La Madia, Chicago): Deep red fruits, some black fruits, a hint of light wood & a maple-like tone buried in the nose. Mouthfeel is very silky with mixed baking spices, great strawberry & dark cherries that flow through a nice finish.

An evening with Michael Browne and Jim Mack (La Madia, Chicago IL): nose: very nice purity on the nose with rich tones of red fruits, black fruits, cherries, strawberries and spices. Very fruitful and forward, but doesn't seem too jammy. Nice depth on the nose, but pales a bit compared to the rosellas that was before it
taste: very polished medium feel with medium acidity. Rich and silky tones of red fruits, cherries, strawberries and spices work well in balance with each other
overall: a very rich and polished pinot. Good depth, there is a very attractive quality to it that makes it appealing, though it was the least of the kosta browne single vineyards for me

COLOR: Purple-garnet with a garnet-ruby rim
NOTE: Tasted against the 2008 Aubert Reuling and this wins.

Wonderful Pinot-Deep cherry plum on nose followed by plum and saffron. The taste profile is intial strong cola followed by intense acid and balanced plum flesh. A light wine that is drinking well now-but can last another two years.A nice light KB that matched well with chanterelle risotto and duck.

quite light on the palate for a Kosta Browne, which is a good surprise. not heavy or cloying, usual cherry, cola, strawberries, but what made this wine good was its overall harmony, from start to finish it seems to flow seamlessly, nothing is too dominant, has enough acidity to prevent it from being too sweet, but not too tart to make it hard to sip alone. no heat, long finish, has some smoky, leafy forest floor flavors to make it interesting. pretty good wine, but at $74 its a bit expensive. Definitely a great buy if this was like $49.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over three hours. Garnet color in the glass, perhaps leaning slightly towards dark garnet color in the glass with a clear hue throughout. Nose of orange peel, herbs and a mix of red fruits. Flavors of berries dominate with some added notes of cherries. Medium to bright acidity, medium tannins, medium body. Drink now with some air or continue to hold. 91.

Dark ruby color. Opened over an hour before dinner. Awesome savory nose of blackberry and cola leading to a silky full-bodied mouth of dark berries and cherry. If you are going to open this wine anytime soon, please give it 2 hours of decant time.
Enjoyed alongside a '03 4-barrel which was amazing!
