Tasted by 818wines on 9/25/2021 & rated 94 points: Drinking beautifully (1245 views)
Tasted by Andrew H on 2/14/2020 & rated 90 points: Deep red with violet tint. Starts with an almost effervescent nose of cherry (cola?) which subsided to brooding, secondary nites of spice, ripe cherry, some woods, oak, and hints of vanilla. Still going strong 13 years in, but definitely not the fruit forward wine of its youth. (1778 views)
Tasted by Aravind Asok on 11/11/2017: Pop and pour. Very ripe, showing loads of cherry and a hint of tobacco/brambles. On the palate, pure sweet cherry and ok acidity, perhaps slightly flabby; almost syrah texture, but soft finish, with tannin resolved. (2683 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 2/27/2017 & rated 90 points: Starting to fade. Ripe red cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit with some cola notes. Decent acidity at this point, nice finish. (3078 views)
Tasted by KenK on 2/6/2017 & rated 90 points: Nice dark aromas of expresso dusted cherry. Quite ripe, yet retains interest. Ripe sweet dense sweet cherry fruit with a tart finish. Good to very good, but just a bit disjointed tonight. Want to give this another shot soon. (3281 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 2/5/2017 & rated 86 points: Nose is huge with dense, rich black cherries and spice. A bit too much on the palate with sweet and somewhat cloying cherry fruit. One of my gateways Pinots when I first got into wine ... but not my cup of tea anymore. (2549 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 2/5/2017 & rated 89 points: Good Wine with an Exciting Super Bowl (Chez Kailin - Northbrook IL): Small glass, brief note. Big and bold black fruit that is just barely starting to fade, but the concentration keeps this from seeming tired. Probably better a year or three ago, but certainly still enjoyable. (3159 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 10/7/2016 & rated 93 points: Aromas dried cherry, rose petal, hint of root beer, beet and touch of spice. This is still holding strong at age 9 with flavors of wild cherry, wild strawberry, raspberry and sassaspirilla. This ends with a 25 second finish. Probably a touch better in its youth. (1748 views)
Tasted by ScottPreston on 9/11/2016 & rated 91 points: On the decent now, but still full of red fruits. On the bigger side. (1375 views)
Tasted by ScottPreston on 7/24/2016 & rated 89 points: I think this is losing its structure. Fruit is still there but getting sappy and losing its grip. little acidity is going to make further cellaring problematic. (1464 views)
Tasted by jimmythesaint on 4/16/2016: Not my favorite of the KB lineup but this did not disappoint. My last bottle of 4 and I wish I had one more for the longer haul. The color was dark garnet resembling a more youthful wine. You could tell from the nose this was a powerhouse in its youth and needed to shed the baby fat. Drink up but you can still take your time. (1858 views)
Tasted by tgkswine on 12/25/2015 & rated 95 points: Deep garnet in the glass with a wonderful nose of red fruit and kirtsch. A beautiful wine that is as perfectly integrated as it could be. Red and dark fruit with hints of creamy cola with that hint of vanilla on the end.

Wonderful from the first sip to mid palate through the finish. A perfect complement to Christmas turkey dinner. (1995 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 11/23/2015 & rated 90 points: WIML90

Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of lacquer, Kirsch and black berries. Flavors of berries, raspberries and boysenberries. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink over the short term. (2047 views)
 Tasted by Cristal2000 on 5/25/2015 & rated 94 points: Excellent. (3569 views)
Tasted by wineismylife on 2/28/2015 & rated 93 points: WIML93

Tasted blind as part of Blind Pinot Tasting.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of fertilizer, white pepper, berries and plums. Flavors of berries, raspberries and plums. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink now with air or continue to hold.

My guess was this is the 2007 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Amber Ridge Vineyard that I brought. In all fairness I knew it was in the lineup and I did smell it in bottle when I double decanted it before serving to make sure it wasn't tainted so it was easier to pick out of the line up as a result.

This wine came in 6th place out of 14 wines with 10 tasters participating giving an average score of 90.80. (2585 views)

Tasted by MadTownWine on 12/24/2014 & rated 93 points: Yummy. Can easily go another 3-5 years. Unfortunately none left! (2063 views)
Tasted by TheWineDon on 11/28/2014 & rated 93 points: Thoroughly enjoyed. Full, fruity profile, as to be expected with KB wines. (2085 views)
Tasted by cns on 9/22/2014 & rated 91 points: This wine was a little more restrained than the other KB Pinots. I enjoyed it very much. Still on the big & fruity side of my liking, but a very enjoyable wine ... again, a stylistic choice for those who love KB. (2114 views)
Tasted by Steve Brickley on 3/29/2014 & rated 93 points: This is drinking quite well now. The little bit of fruit is just enough to make this such a gentle wine. Black tea, slight funk, smooth, soft. While this can hold another few years without drop off, I'd open it up by 2015. Exceptional. Great PNP but 2 hour decant is worth the wait. (2469 views)
Tasted by CRAUBER4242 on 12/26/2013 & rated 93 points: Similar notes to my bottle from Dec 2011. A great tasty wine. (2738 views)
Tasted by texaswinelover on 11/28/2013 & rated 91 points: Not sure I enjoyed better than '06 which I had last night. Deeper fruit, more cherry liquer with touch of heat. Richer flavors overall. More of everything the '06 had including etoh.

Typical cola, kirsch, dark fruit. (2529 views)
Tasted by jimmythesaint on 9/13/2013: Yum. (2875 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 8/23/2013 & rated 93 points: PnP w/2 hrs in decanter. Clear, very deep ruby red. Classic huge KB nose. This was an excellent bottle. Absolutely perfect drinking window integration/balance. Usual KB notes of cola, red/black fruits, not overly ripe, very long/big finish with a touch of tannin and sour cherries. One of the better KB's I've had and hitting on all cylinders. Nothing off. $84 w/tax/shipping. Drink now or by 2015. (2849 views)
Tasted by affordableCollector on 7/18/2013 & rated 88 points: maroon, in color. cherry, red fruit, floral, earth, spicy, on the nose. medium acid, on the finish. (1183 views)

Pinot Noir

Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Jura, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Romania, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Pinot Noir is one of the world's most prestigious grapes. It is very difficult to grow and thrives well in France, especially in Champagne and Burgundy. Pinot Noir thrives less in hot areas, is picky on soil, and deserves some oak storage.

Pinot Noir, or Blauburgunder / Spätburgunder in German, is a blue grapevine - and, as the German name suggests, the grape comes originally from Burgundy in France.

The grape, which thrives in calcareous soils, is used primarily for the production of red wine, and it is widely regarded as producing some of the best wines in the world. The wine style is often medium-bodied with high fruit acidity and soft tannins. It can be quite peculiar in fragrance and taste, and not least in structure - which may be why it is referred to as "The Grapes Ballerina".
Pinot Noir is also an important ingredient in sparkling wines, not least in champagne since it is fruity, has good acidity and contains relatively little tannins.
The grape is considered quite demanding to grow. The class itself consists of tightly packed grapes, which makes it more sensitive to rot and other diseases.

Pinot Noir changes quite easily and is genetically unstable. It buds and matures early which results in it often being well ripened. Climate is important for this type of grape. It likes best in cool climates - in warm climates the wines can be relaxed and slightly pickled.
In cooler climates, the wine can get a hint of cabbage and wet leaves, while in slightly warmer regions we often find notes of red berries (cherries, strawberries, raspberries, currants), roses and slightly green notes when the wine is young. With age, more complex aromas of forest floor, fungi and meat emerge.

In Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary, it often produces light wines with less character. However, it has produced very good results in California, Oregon and New Zealand.

With its soft tannins and delicate aroma, it is excellent for white fish, chicken and light meat. For the stored wines you can serve small game. Classic duck breast is a matter of course, a Boeuf Burgundy and Pinot Noir are pure happiness.

Pinot Noir loses quality by over-harvesting.
Pinot Noir is prone to diseases, especially rot and mildew. Viruses cause major problems especially in Burgundy.
Pinot Noir are large round grapes with thin skins. Relatively high in alcohol content. Medium rich tannins and good with acid.
As a young person, Pinot Noir has a distinctly fruity character such as raspberries, cherries and strawberries.
A mature Pinot Noir, the taste is different. Cherry goes into plum and prune flavors. It smells of rotten leaves, coffee, moist forest floor and animal wine. This must be experienced.
In warm climates you find boiled plum, some rustic, little acid.
If the grapes are over-grown, the wine will be thin, with little color and flavor.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
