Medium ruby red with a garnet hue. Bright red cherries on the nose with aged nuanced such as cedar, leather and cocoa. Medium tannins (5.5/10) and a medium body. Well balanced acidity with cherries, touch of baking spices, minerality and a medium plus finish. Drink till 2025.

Deep, dark reddish-purple in color; almost opaque with no signs of aging. Forward, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with dark cocoa, leather, earthy, spices, herbs, anise, cedar & smoky notes with a touch of vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, polished, rich, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and plums, mocha, earthy, minerals, herbs, spices and a hint of toasty oak & vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but has the potential to develop further with additional aging. Quite youthful for being 10 years old.

Napa bottling, not Estate. Decanted for sediment. Medium red to pale edge. A bit vegetal on opening with notes of cherry candy. A bit of raspberry, cassis and oak initially. Watched this develop over 3-1/2 hours. Never big, but elegant with a light perfume on the nose. Good varietal fruit with notes of cherry grape (almost concord), cassis and French oak as it unfolded. Excellent balance with firm tannins. Continued well on second day with little change. Very good Merlot, but pricy. I think that the Estate might have more concentration.

Lovely bouquet, dark red, leather and cedar dominating what's left of the plum and cherry fruit, soft tannins, long finish. It knocked the socks off the competition, perhaps no great feat given that the competition included some two-buck Chuck....

A huge surprise. Hadn't had a Duckhorn in years and found a stray bottle in the collection. Popped and poured at cellar temp. Nicely developed, high-toned nose of tart cherries, cranberries. Palate screams class. Bright acid, fine-grained tannins, really nicely layered fruit/smoke/earth.

Bucking the trend. This was void of fruit and had acid so out of balance that it was just uncomfortable. If I had to post a score - a generous 83. Love their Three Palms and others but had this a couple of times over a few vintages - won't repeat.

Always a reliablely solid wine, and never fails to impress but perhaps a bit much at $64 - Dark, full bodied with a nose of deep plum, cherry, mocha, cedar and vanilla, very well balanced at this stage, good structure, fruit forward, sweet, smooth on the palate with very good length, tasty as always! (90 Points).

Opened and poured. Sweet nose of plumb, marshmellow vamilla, green herb and wood smoke. Noticable alcohol burn on the nose but not over the top offensive. Easy drinking and pretty smooth for a higher alcohol wine. This balances off quit well on the finish. Big after taste of blueberry and bitter dark coffee bean. Dry lengthy tannin presistant on the finish. Drinking well now so my opinion is to drink up over the next few years.

Clear, ruby, medium intensity, with a hint of garnet on the rim and numerous legs. The nose is clean, medium plus to pronounced in intensity, with beautiful aromas of plums, currants and sweet spice. There were some vegetal, tomato leaf aromas at first which then gave way to vanilla. The nose is developing. The flavors on the palate are consistent with the nose. The palate is dry, with medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins and alcohol (14.5%). The body and flavor intensity are likewise medium plus and the finish is long. This wine iis drinking beautifully right now, but it has the potential for improving through 2012 and perhaps 2013. Overall, the wine is wonderfully balanced. The tannins are silky smooth and well integrated. The alcohol still comes across as a little hot, which is why a llittle more ageing might help integrate it even more. Overall, this is an outstanding wine. On sale for $30.00, this is a great value. but anything like $50 seems overpriced.

We had a bottle of the 06 Merlot at Harrah's Steakhouse in Reno with a three course dinner. Merlot was a nice rich red color, with a deep berry nose, and berry & earthy palate, with a decent finish -- tannins are present, but definitely mellow and rounding out. Good body & not hot in the least. Appetizers were Ahi plate & cream of onion soup -- great pairing. Entree was Chateaubriand for 2 -- could have used a nice Cab to fully explore the flavors, but the Merlot held its own. Dessert -- chocolate truffles -- great combination. Overall, the wine held its own, even though it was not properly decanted, just popped and poured. Though this is one of the entry level Merlots on the Duckhorn menu, but it still is a nice wine for a nice dinner.

THis is being offered to me at a nice price so I took a flyer on one to see where it is. I opened and let breath for 2 hours., drank the first glass slowly over the next hour. So the 2nd glass was 3 hours in and it is very integrated right now. This wine is still young, but gave some nice blueberry flavor with a hint of strawberrry on the back of the mouth. I think this will be a nice wine in a few years.

My first trip to Napa, Ca.; 7/9/2009-7/11/2009: I found this the most drinkable merlot of the whole line-up while tasting at Duckhorn. It is rather simple though, but drinking well now and actually has it's acids and alcohol under control. Smooth with a light weight on the palate.

Opened up nicely with decanting after about 3 hours.
Some oaky, spice notes on the nose.
Palate tastes of bramble, cherry, red and black licorice. Medium tannins with a nice balance on the mid palate. Enjoyable finish.

Nice bottle of easy to drink wine. Agree with the previos comment that there is only one simple note. Therefore the price is way to high on this one.

Dark berry fruit in a very full mouthfeel -- 14.5% alcohol -- and rich finish. This wine improves a great deal with a 60 minute decant.

Dark fruit, vanilla, and cedar on the nose. Great tasting wine that got better as it opened up. Black cherry and cocoa with mild tannins.

Wine Marketing Tasting (Newport): Well I don't think this was worth the price of entry, I did think it was a well done bottle of wine. Great fruit, well balanced, with some structure. 89-90

Duckhorn & Goldeneye at Hi Time Wine Cellar (Costa Mesa, Ca): Was disappointed in this Merlot- very bitter and tangy. Definitely needs some time of something.

Quite dissapointing compared to the years before. Simple flavors and one note. For the price, invest in '03-'05 for a deeper, richer red.

Muted cherry and plum aromas, with high-toned olive and vanilla on the palate. Dry and short. Not much to it.
